The flowers never stood a chance. Between my brown thumb and bad luck with clumsy kids I knew my newly renovated flowerbed would never stand a chance. But this one…this one I never saw coming. The dog. The dog from hell. The dog that is making my life a nightmare….the dog who is about to find herself sleeping in the garage…destroyed my $200 worth of flowers, materials, blood, sweat and tears.
Okay, well maybe not the blood…but I did sweat a lot, cut my finger with the digger and cried about it later. Look at all this beautiful work I put into creating the perfect flowerbed full of bright mums. It took an entire afternoon to create that little masterpiece, all destroyed in less than an hour by THE DOG.
Every morning I put our labrador puppy, Shelbi, out on the line to get some yard time, run around a bit, roll in the grass, do that doggy thing dogs do. An hour later, I always go back out and get her for breakfast. But not today, today I go out to get her and see this…
My poor hydrangea, my baby mums, all that work…and she even had the nerve to dig into the wood chips and pull up that darn weed growth protection fabric that I had to nail into the ground ever few inches.
And as an added bonus, she thought it would be fun to dig some holes in our yard. My poor husband is going to have a coronary when he sees this. His grass is his baby, the love of his life…and now it has craters.

Between my incompetent landscaping company “weeding” and my stupid dog ALL of my pretty little garden was gone last year and had to be totally redone this past summer. We put up a little green wire fence and although it looked tacky in theory it really melded right in when put in the ground.
Oh and the holes are nothing. My dog runs so hard and fast she has created tracks around my yard. She now has like 2 or three different ones. The grass is completely gone and replaced by dirt packed track lines.
UGH!!!!
i know how you feel my dog eats my plants and lys in a flower pot.
Cat,
Man. I would say to put the dog in the garage for the night, but she wouldn’t get it and would have lots of licks for you in the morning. Too bad you weren’t able to discipline her when it happened, but then I guess it wouldn’t have happened. Has she been talking to your kids behind your back?
I can empathize w/you. You should see our beautiful grass now. Due to toooooooo much rain, my husband’s lawn mower got stuck in the grass, that needed cutting, and now we have beautiful tread/tire through the front of the yard. So much for curb appeal.
LOL
we’re having a HUGE backyard project this weekend. I dread to think of the results being stomped on, trampled, and eaten by the kids and such
Ah, the success of a puppy is a heartbreak for the owner. I do not miss these days, nor do I ever want to encounter them again. Our 3 dogs run through my flower beds, so I fixed them. I bought some shrubs that have lots and lots of stickers, thorns, barbs or whatever you want to call them, all over them. I know I am evil but it worked. lol
I don’t have a dog, now I remember why. It was pretty while it lasted, LMAO. Sorry!
Oh my, she had a good time didn’t she? I have to say that even after the damage, your beds look a million times better than mine!
Poor flowers! Don’t feel bad though…my dog is psycho and does the same thing. My backyard is full of huge holes from him!
Happy WW!
Yikes! The mums still look pretty though, hopefully they’ll pull a little destruction!
oh man, that is a bad doggy…
