Baby Einstein or Bad Mothering?

babyeinsteincurlyhair

In all seriousness, I feel like a bad mom. Growing up I was not a girly girl, no makeup, no dress up, no pigtails. And here I am 26 years later with this beautiful little girl who embraces every aspect of her girliness with requests for having her piggies painted pink, bows in her hair and tapping around the house in 1 of 2 pairs of high heels I own (but have never worn). And here I am with not a clue on what to do or how to do it.

The other day I went to run a comb through her hair and it just wasn’t having it. Every turn left the comb stuck in yet another knot of curls. I’m clueless. My hair has always been straight with a slight wave yet I have this little girl with gorgeous golden curls and not a clue how to take care of them. One of these days I’m afraid someone is going to mistake her for a descendant of Einstein if I don’t learn how to control the mess.

    She is so cute!
I wouldn’t call her hair a mess its just dry in the back.
My daughter has hair that most people would crawl over broken glass for.
My own hair blah. I take great pride and care in her hair. Mine just goes up in a bun.
Anyways do you use shampoo and conditioner? Do you use a tangle tamer? The back seems dry she needs some kind of hydrating conditioner in her hair. I wouldn’t go with the cheap stuff. J&J has some shampoo and conditioner for curly hair. I use H20+ marine line on Olivia’s hair. Once a week or so I wash her hair with my stuff AVEDA Dry Remedy. Olivia’s hair is shoulder length and the hair stuff last forever, so with your daughters short hair anything will last along time. Make sure to massage it in and I find kiss her head will help hair growth, The last part is not scientifically proven BUT it can’t hurt kiss her head anyways.
    Good luck!

  3. She’s got adorable hair! My son takes after my husband’s family with his hair (obviously! lol) so I’d say all you need is a baby brush and lotion, nothing more right now. As she gets older and those curls become more luscious, keep a detangler on hand!

Best of luck with the locks!

  4. I love her curls. Good pic to compare her to though. She will probably grow to hate those curls as some will envy them.

  5. Cat,

Yep! I saw that same picture of Einstein (finger up the nose, etc.) somewhere. Let me get it…I will say that she has caught you off guard a few times where you may just have to admit the doctors did a fast one on you. How do they get so smart so early? Oops, not this post.

I’m just about to comb Lily’s hair. Her hairstyle is three days old and the only reason it doesn’t look like Kaydence’s is because I braided it. I’ve been wearing my hair short forever and haven’t a clue as to what to do w/her long hair. Her hair goes through stages in the wearing experience. Often when it’s ringlet/curly/fluffed out (usually some tangles in there somewhere) is when she looks the cutest. From one bad mom to another…put some water on it, give it a good brush through, and start all over.

Aww..she is so cute! My oldest used to have some beautiful curls but she’s growing out of it and her hair is getting straighter. We always wet her hair before we comb it and sometimes use detangler to get some of the knots out.

Lauren’s got half curly hair (the bottom is ringlets) I use MY conditioner in her hair- I just make sure that it doesn’t go in her eyes. I think she is BEAUTIFUL regardless of her hair! ;)

  8. Aww, beautiful baby! My youngest had hair like that – and now it’s just wavy, but kinda curly, and she straightens it! I luv looking back at the pictures of the curls, especially curly in humid weather! Enjoy!

  9. Nichol says:

Her hair is adorable. Zoe had crazy hair! I got a review for Earth Baby Organics conditioner and it is the best stuff in the world. You should contact them.

I had hair like that when I was younger. Loreal makes a wonderful kids detangler and it would help you a ton with that beautiful head of hair.

  11. My daughter’s hair does the SAME thing. I’ve written a post about it, tried every product you can imagine and it’s still there. I give up!

  12. She is too cute! Get some of that spray in detangler, it’s good stuff!

  13. I agree – a good conditioner and a spray detangler. So cute though!

  14. Hahaha love that last one!

Abby has some curls in the back (nowhere near what your daughter has) but the spray detangler works AWESOME. Even if I forget the conditioner it makes it so easy to comb her hair.

  15. Elizabeth says:

When my 3yo was this age, I was so bad about not getting the knots out of his bed head! Something about that fine blond hair.

    I love your dd’s curls.

  16. Oh, she is so adorable…crazy hair and all :)

    Happy WW!

  17. Bridgette says:

LOL! Aubrie’s hair is the SAME way!

  18. Allison says:

She is adorable and you sound just.like.me! My middle daughter is a complete girly girl and she always wants some cute and intricate hairdo and I am just no good at doing hair…like I can barely do pigtails…I’m that bad!

  19. Crystal Allen says:

she is beautiful! i feel your pain. i am not a girly girl either and i have a beautiful blonde headed 5 yo dd who loves to carry a purse and have her nails done too. i let her nunna take care of that when they are together! i have a niece with curls like your dd. do you try a conditioner on her hair and have you tried the spray detangler? it looks baby fine and just needs some moisture to it. she is lovely! enjoy her.

Awww. She is so cute! I love her curls, even if they are a little messy in that photo.
