Baby Einstein or Bad Mothering?

babyeinsteincurlyhair

In all seriousness, I feel like a bad mom. Growing up I was not a girly girl, no makeup, no dress up, no pigtails. And here I am 26 years later with this beautiful little girl who embraces every aspect of her girliness with requests for having her piggies painted pink, bows in her hair and tapping around the house in 1 of 2 pairs of high heels I own (but have never worn). And here I am with not a clue on what to do or how to do it.

The other day I went to run a comb through her hair and it just wasn’t having it. Every turn left the comb stuck in yet another knot of curls. I’m clueless. My hair has always been straight with a slight wave yet I have this little girl with gorgeous golden curls and not a clue how to take care of them. One of these days I’m afraid someone is going to mistake her for a descendant of Einstein if I don’t learn how to control the mess.

  2. Aww I love the hair. I’d be in the same boat. Luckily our kids have no hair.

  3. She is so cute. My middle daughter had no hair for like the first 2 years and then it grew in, but its that wavy, thick hair. I absolutely wish I had hair like hers, but it is very hard to do. She will ask for something crazy, but it’s really hard to do because it’s wavy. Her hair often looks like your picture! LOL

She is such a doll! Just use lots of detangler spray :)

  5. Gena Morris says:

I love her wild hair! We use lots of detangler for Sydnee’s hair. Her hair is the same way! The minute it is out of the pig tails, it is like that again!

  6. Sarah says:

She’s so cute, messy hair and all. I think I’d have trouble with curls too, but my nieces have really curly hair and I know my sister uses the detangler spray like others have recommended.

She’s still adorable but you did give me some good chuckles. Definitely use the detangling spray. :)

My son’s got the same hair! I have to set up a date with the scissors for him (I know that’s not helpful, but thank you for the reminder!)

I simply LOVE her beautiful curls… then again, I have straight hair, so I love everyone else’s natural curls. From time to time I break down and perm mine to get those curls, but I hate the damage perming does to my hair.

The kids today seem to be growing up faster, learning things quicker, and getting “attitudinal” with lightning speed. Hold onto every second you have with her while she’s young… she’ll be a pre-teen before you can blink.

  11. Donna Holmberg says:

A big key (as I remember from dealing with my niece’s riotous curls), is to always remember to use a cream rinse or conditioner when you wash her hair. A 2-in-1 will not do the job… it has to be done in two steps for her hair to truly gain the benefit of the extra-easy combing and brushing. A detangling spray is a great idea, but for little ones I suggest diluting it half way with water so it’s not leaving a heavy coating on her hair.

See, and I am a girly girl, but my dd’s hair still looks like that. Maybe worse. She still has a bunch of hair that is growing in on the top, so the top of her hair right now is super fine, with a bunch of short hair, so there’s not much I can do with it. When I do decide to do it, I usually put some kind of styling lotion on there, and the curls turn out super cute. It’s just too big of a pain to do it everyday.

  13. Marcia says:

I am the same way…tom boy all the way. I have a 5 year old girly girl princess too. WIth the Curls as well!!!
I am learning so much from her….pink rules!! :)
    Cute post….cuter baby girl!

  14. Firefly says:

She is too cute :) I use the detangling spray for my daughter her hair is so straight but every morning it looks so messy LOL Love your post!

  15. That last picture is priceless!

  16. Kayla says:

Oh, I would LOVE that head of hair!!
    She is just gorgeous =]

  17. Shannon says:

Awww I love her hair and I think it looks nice. Just use a good conditioner at every bath and comb it out with a wide tooth comb and it should be easier to comb through. :)

  18. Staci A says:

Too funny, Cat! She’s adorable. And that last photo is just priceless!

  19. Chelsea says:
