Mom Approved:

Breastfeeding is a journey that didn’t come easily for me with my first child. While I knew that it was the best choice for my child, I really lacked the commitment needed to succeed. After just three weeks of lots of trial, and even more error, I gave up. What I lacked was the support and education that a mother truly needs to successfully breastfeed. It wasn’t until years later when my daughter was born that I took the time to research not only the benefits but how to be successful at breastfeeding with the help of great products designed for breastfeeding mothers.

So where do you start? Medela! Did you know Medela offers so much more than just breastpumps? I didn’t until I had my daughter. My first problem started with cracked nipples from latching difficulty. With lots of advice from other moms, I was pointed to the Medela Tender Care Lanolin. I can’t tell you how many times this little bottle of natural ingredients saved me from the agony of cracked nipples. It’s great to use as a preventative and perfectly safe for your little one.

What makes Medela truly great is they not only support mother’s who exclusively breastfeed with products like the lanolin, cooling breast pads, and nursing camisole but they make it easier for moms who can’t be with their newborns 24 hours a day to still give their children breast milk. Not all women have the convenience of working from home like I do. I know so many mother’s that work outside the home that still want to offer their infant breast milk and need to turn to a breast pump and  bottles.

While I don’t work outside the home or have to be separated from my infant, a breast pump is still a major need to help me successfully breastfeed my daughter. As many of you know, I have an older son and toddler daughter. Three children can leave you with little time, especially when it comes to feeding an infant for up to an hour in one sitting. I know the Swing Breastpump will be perfect for allowing me to feed my daughter breast milk from a bottle while tending to the care of my other children.

Be sure to check back in March as I journal my own use of the Swing Breastpump and Feeding Set!

Medela’s wonderful line of products are available in stores and online at convenient retailers like Babie’s R Us, Target, and more. You can buy the Swing BreastPump at Babies R Us for $149.99 and the BPA-Free Feeding Gift Set for $29.99.

Medela Breastpump

Giveaway Entry:

For me, offering my children breast milk is an important part of mothering my children. While offering breast milk directly from the breast is a great choice, it’s not always optional for you. For this reason, I want you to tell me WHY and HOW having an electric breast pump and this feeding set would benefit you and your infant(s). Unlike most giveaways, this one will not be based on random selection. I will be choosing the winner based on need and dedication to successfully breast feeding your infant(s). Please give this some thought and comment with your own personal story. You  may enter on behalf of someone else if you know someone that could truly use this package to further their journey in breast feeding.

Giveaway Rules:

Giveaway open to U.S. residents only with a valid street address (no P.O. Boxes please). Entrants must first complete the “Giveaway Entry” requirement before completing extra entries. Winner will be chosen by Random.org on February 24, 2009 9am CST unless otherwise noted. Winners will be notified by email and must respond within 48 hours or a new winner will be chosen. Entries MUST include an email address in the comment! No email = No entry!

I would love to win this breastpump. I am currently expecting in two ways: I am 7 months pregnant, and I am in a long process to adopt a child from Haiti. With my current pregnant, there are several indications that this baby is at risk for a genetic issue that will make breastfeeding difficult. I would love to have a pump to help bridge that gap if I need to supplement with bottles at times. I would also love to feed my son from Haiti breastmilk when he comes home, but at his age, feeding at the breast may not be possible. Being able to give him the nutrional benefits of breastmilk would be a huge blessing as we bring him home.

  2. Mary says:

My neice is 24 and pregnant, with a clerk job at a local retail store. She can really use this to help her keep her job and to defray a little of the cost of raising her baby.

  3. Trisha says:

When I was pregnant, I had an electric one and it was SO helpful. As a new mom, I struggled not only with schedules, but with breastfeeding and eventually went to pumping. To be perfectly blunt, pumping was just as hard, but I had a Medula Double Pump and was able to sit in the bathtub, my only relaxing time, and pump while I was there. Medula made it so easy that I could actually do something I had to do along with something I wanted to do and it wasnt inconvenient or painful. It was also QUICK! I was one of those women that no matter HOW long i pumped, I only got one bottle worth….it was frustrating.
But I can say that WITHOUT the breastpump, I probably would not have been able to do even that, so they saved me.

I am not entering for myself, I am entering for my 19 year old cousin. She is due in april and is already on government assistance. There is no way she could afford something like this for herself. You would never know it, but I grew up in a trailer and come from a super poor extended family. My grandmother makes $400 a month. My cousin came to live with me last fall, where I pulled her out of her situation, and made her get her GED for her own good. She stuck it out and DID get her GED and I am very proud of her. Her mom let her drop out of school and move in with her boyfriend when she was 15 and she never went back. I didnt want that to be ANOTHER person in my family. Right now, my dad and I are the ONLY people in our family to have ever graduated college. I wanted more for her.

Unfortunately, weeks after she moved in, she discovered she was pregnant. She did stick it out and finish classes, but after she was done, she moved back to Rural missouri.

Right now, she has no job, no car, and thankfully through some gov programs is able to get prenatal care, but without support, I fear she may fail breastfeeding like so many women.

If i was able to send her a breastpump, I could atleast provide support and guidance to her over the phone since that is what I mainly used.

My family may never be rich and to be honest, the cycle has only been broken by my dad and I, but I still want them to be able to offer the best start of life to the newest member that is going to be my new cousin.

    Thankyou for the chance,
    trisha

my daughter would benefit from this…shes had my grandbaby 2 weeks ago and shes real full. she wants to pump and save for a rainy day. thanx

  5. angela says:

This medela breast pump set would be a gift to my daughter. Her dream was to breastfeed her child. After having a traumatic birth episode with her first child the breast feeding somehow was lost in the shuffle and her helper did not help much and left her. My daughter then blamed herself that she did not do all that she could do to help her precious little angel as she became a bottle fed baby and not breast fed. Now my daughter is looking to have another child and I want her to suceed in her dream. I am hoping that this set will help her meet her goal. After hours upon hours of hearing the dream and stories of breast feeding her child I want her to succed as I want all my children to suceed in al that they do. That is why I would love to win this set

This would be a great shower gift for my neice!

  7. I love Medela products and have been using the Medela Pump in Style since my daughter was born. I truly believe that giving babies breastmilk is the best thing for them.

I would want to win this pump for my SIL who is expecting this June. She could really benefit from having this. I know she’d appreciate it!

    thanks for the opportunity!

  8. susan varney says:

it quicker saves a lot of time .be able to spin more time with baby

  9. Karen Gonyea says:

This would be great for my niece who is expecting her first baby :)

  10. Jessi says:

With my DD i tried to breastfeed but simply could not produce enough to feed her strictly from the breast. I was able to pump in between feeding her so i built up a little bit of a stash in the freezer and so my DH or my older children would feed her a bottle after i put her to breast and fortuanatly we were able to give her breast milk. Because of the pump i had RENTED i was able to give my daughter nothing but breastmilk for the first six months of her life. At six months though i could no longer afford to rent the pump and had to return it and then i had to start giving her formula and while there is nothing wrong with supplementing with formula i simply felt terrible about having to do it and not producing enough milk. MY mother in law bought me a cheap pump but the suction simply was not strong enough to get anything out.

I am currently pregnant again and as much as i would love to i cannot afford to buy a pump of this calibre which is what i believe i need to successfully breastfeed my new son on the way. This breaks my heart and i cry a million times a day because i am sure i am going to have the same supply issues i had with my daughter and i only want to give my son what is best, moms milk, for at least the first 8 mths of his life. Winning this would help ease some of the stress i am feeling and help my son.

  11. Dee says:

I only breastfed my first for 4 months. I had a horrible breast pump I am not one to breastfeed in public or around anyone else. I guess I should get over that fear, but I just don’t!

If i would have had a breastpump that actually worked well, I could have pumped before going out or when people where over. I felt like I missed out on so much because I was ducking into dressing rooms and hiding in our bedroom every two hours to nurse Evan.

I want to breastfeed longer with this baby. I’m going to try to overcome some of the obstacles that I’ve put up myself because of being so modest, but I think that having a breastpump that actually works would help me make this journey!

I am now 13 weeks pregnant with our second baby and I would love the chance to win this for him so that I give him a better chance at breastfeeding. My goal is to breastfeed this baby up until he is one or so like is recomended. I want to do what is best for this baby!

Thanks so much for the consideration and I’m so excited for your little bundle to get here and see some pics! :)

  13. Ella says:

I am having baby #6 in 24 days! My first babies were twins and I could not bf them from the breast as I wasn’t producing enough milk, the loaned hospital pump was my saving grace for them to have breast milk! Next baby was born 6 weeks early and due to his size he was unable to nurse early on, Dr.’s wouldn’t allow it, then once he was strong enough to nurse he would tire easily, so again I pumped exclusively and he benefited greatly from it. Our 4th child had latch issues and after weeks of trying the Dr. told me I must feed him by bottle, so again, we rented a pump from the hospital to use for months and month. My youngest child was the first I was successfully able to breastfeed! Though I still needed a pump because the first month or so she wouldn’t stay latched unless she got instant gratification, so I had to express milk, use a feeding tube next to my nipple and then we could have a full breastfeeding session. As much as I wish I could just breast feed with no need for expressed breast milk, it has not been our reality! Hopefully this baby will be a pro when he is born but it would be nice to have our own pump so that I can make sure our baby gets breast milk completely, whether it is from the breast or bottle.

  14. Thao says:

I am expecting twins and have ambitious goals to breastfeed them both and get them on the same schedule. And I want to do this for at least 9 months to a year while going back to work. There are so many health benefits to breastfeeding but if the mother is not always able to breastfeed, pumping and providing breastmilk to babies is better than not breastmilk. I want my twins to get the health benefits from breastmilk in addition to my benefits. It will be cheaper than formula. Having the Medela pump that is of hospital grade, will allow me to provide breastmilk to my babies.

  15. Lauren Young says:

My sister-in-law just recently had her first baby last monday… She is a single mom and just a sweet person! She is in the process of getting into nursing school and my in-laws would be watching the baby during the day while she goes. She would love to have this amazing pump so that she could pump for her baby and know that he was being taken care of but was also getting his mama’s milk. She has done so well at breast feeding for her first time and really deserves this… please consider my sister-in-law!

  16. Trish says:

With my first daughter, I borrowed my sil’s pump. It was my first kid, and I don’t think I pumped enough. I never took a break. I got up 4-5 times every night to feed her, and was never gone for more than an hour anywhere, because I knew I’d need to feed my daughter. After 10 months of breastfeeding I had to stop because my milk supply was extremely low. To the point of my daughter loosing weight. I tried to pump near the end, and I was lucky to get an ounce total. I didn’t realize that this wasn’t normal. While I tried everything to bring my milk back, nothing worked. I had to give my pump back to my sil, so she could use it. I’m just worried that our next kids are going to be born at the same time, and we only have one pump! I’d love to have an electrical one for each of us. This one is nice and small, so I could take it when I visit my parents and not have to worry about not getting enough milk pumped. I had a small manual one that I took when we visited my family for Thanksgiving, and it took me a whole week to pump enough milk for one bottle to use while we were on the plane. Having a small electric pump would be awesome. I hope to be able to breastfeed my next kid for at least a year, now that I kind of know how it works. Thanks for the chance to win!

  17. Jessica says:

Why is it beneficial? I’d like to BF for a year, but sometimes it is hard to BF and having stored milk is helpful. Pumping allows my DH to help with the nurturing process, too.
HOW? It allows me to pump and freeze so that my son can always have breast milk even at times I can’t feed him myself due to other obligations.

  18. Jennifer Monteiro says:

I want to breastfeed my daughter for at least one year because of the life long health benefits that continue to be discovered . When I returned to work after my son was born, my milk started to dry up. I think it was due to stress and trying to pump in a hurry. I’d love to have this advanced pump when I return to work Feb. 16th. My daughter will be 2 months old. I already see how much weight she has gained and how healthy she looks because of my dedication to breastfeeding. I also eat healthy, take post natal formula vitamins and DHA supplements so that the milk she receives is the best quality possible.

  19. kim says:

I think I need this because I would like to give nursing a better go for the next baby. I tried my hardest for this one, but lasted 4 months. Which, I know is still commendable, but I truly would like to have a better shot with baby #2. And I do know how much harder it will be just by default, having a toddler in the mix. THUS, I will need all the help I can get. So I think this would REALLY free up some of my coveted time!! :)

  20. My daughter is pregnant with her first child and this will probably be her only child. She has had a very difficult pregnancy both physically and emotionally. The baby’s father decided he did not want the responsibility of having a baby so he walked out and left her with no contact what so ever. She has been in and out of the hospital throughout her pregnancy for various reasons while trying to continue holding down a full time job. She will bring this precious little man into the world as a single mom who is very dedicated to doing this by herself without having to depend on government assistance. She wants so much to nurse her baby but she also knows that she will have to return to work soon after he is born so full time nursing will not be an option for her. Not to mention this Nana would love to be able to cuddle her grandson during the night while Mama gets her much needed rest. :-) Heather has often mentioned wanting the Medela Breast Pump but there is no way she can afford to purchase one for herself. Winning this giveaway would excite her beyond imagination.

  21. Liz says:

    Hey There!

My story? My schedule is crazy and some days I think I’m crazier. Working full time, teaching 2 nights a week, working on 4 different boards and volunteering my time on the side all while trying to be a good mother and wife. Where does that leave me time to breastfeed? It doesn’t. I tried with our first born and struggled. I had a special friend come over and even try to help me through it but my son just fought all the way. Hearing him cry made me cry. I wanted that bond so desparately that so many other mothers had. But after 2 months, I had to return to work. Working 20 minutes from his daycare didn’t let me breastfeed during the day and I depended on my medela pump to pump the milk. Having a daycare provider who wasn’t pro-breastfeeding didn’t help either. After 4 months, my supply dried up because I didn’t dedicate the time to pumping that I should have. This time, I need it to be different.

My origional Medela pump doesn’t work 1 1/2 years later. The motor puttered out on me and isn’t sucking.

What am I going to do differently? Patience I hope will come to me with our 2nd little boy. I hope to just keep trying. I will dilegently carry this Medela with me EVERYWHERE and take the time to pump to keep up supply. Just set time aside for me… to relax and be a mom more than pure career.

I hope you understand that my passion for work and what I do has always been important and I never knew how to slow down… but watching other mothers with their children just made me jealous and frustrated… why wouldn’t Caden latch properly? Why did he fight it so much? Being adopted just added a whole other spin onto this situation which I won’t go into on here… but this added to the frustration because I wanted it so badly.

Maybe it was stress? Because of stress, I got just as frustrated and didn’t keep up how I should have. Now I regret it. I can’t go back in time to correct the precious time I had with Cade… but I can make a larger effort with Grant.

    Hugs and Loves,
    Lizzie

the easier it is to breastpump the less stressed a mom is..why does she need extra pressure from using a crappy breastpump that doesn’t work well

  23. susan says:

My little one is 7 months old and we use a breast pump daily to express milk for his rice cereal (he’s staring his solids) ~ I have to pump when he’s sleeping, which has really decreased since he’s gotten older, although he still gets up two or three times during the night. I do feel exhausted at times however our old donated pump is on its last leg and it’s tough getting all those ounces out! Having a new one would really help us out. Thank you for the chance.

  24. Yasmine says:

I always knew i wanted to breastfeed. when i heard i was having twins, i was freaked out. how am i going to feed two babies? i was always stressing over milk supply, i really thought they would starve! well after having the twins my doctor told me it would be a good idea to rent or buy a pump to keep up milk supply.
We ended up renting one for over 5 months(if not more, i forget.) spending a lottt of money on it- we should have just bought one instead of renting. we ended up paying more than it costs to buy one- not fun when u have to buy 2 of everything!!
I used the pump about 2 times a day so my mother in law and hubby could help me out in feeding the kids when they would wake in the night. which was a great break for me! i also would pump for the freezer. This was the only way for me to go out once in a blue moon- knowing my son would be taken care of with the milk i pumped for him.
My sister in laws all used pumps, they also rented so really it would have been smart to just buy 1 from the beginning and everyone each their own kit to use.
Going out for the day, to the the mall, zoo or to the park, or even visiting my husband at work it always came in handy came in quite handy. Whoever was with me would always offer a helping hand in feeding onebaby a baby, while i nurded the other. i had a hard time nursing them both together at the same time, so it worked out wonderfully for me to nurse one and bottle feed the other!
It would be great to win one. I know i would use it a lot with my next baby
my experience with the pump was great for me, not only did it help keep my supply up it also would reassure me that i was doing a good job in feeding and taking care of my kids.

    thanks for the opportunity!

  25. Sandra Brodeur says:

I am beyond child bearing age but my granddaughter is having her first child in April. She is going to breast feed her daughter, Lucy. She is going to breast feed her and has asked for an electric pump. She will have to go back to work in six weeks and certainly needs it. She wants the best for her daughter, my great-granddaughter. So do I! So please keep us in mind. Thanks for the great giveaway!

  26. Sara M says:

This is a great giveaway! Thanks! We are expecting our first baby next week. This electric pump would help us out because it would allow me to start looking for a new job more quickly. My old job required me to travel weekly and will not work with a newborn. That means career change. Add that to the fact that my husband just took a 30% paycut at his job! Yikes! I am not going to be able to be a stay at home mom like I had hoped that I would. Getting a great pump like this would do wonders to allow me to get back on a much needed career track much faster! Of course, I am nervous about breast feeding because this is my first child. Hopefully, I can relax enough and things will fall in to place! Thanks!

  27. Honestly, I could really use this myself. I have a five month old daughter. Hubby and I are in process of adopting a baby from Ethiopia. As soon as I found out I was pregnant I bought an avent breast pump. I knew that I would want to start pumping immediately after her birth so that I could have extra to give to the new baby as well. And that is what I did. Things were going great I have plenty of milk and a huge freezer stash. Until about three months is when my pump died. So, I started using the hand pump that came with it. That works just fine. The problem is that my hand is starting to get very sore. Hubby is worried I may be getting carpal tunnel. Unfortunately, we really do not have the money to buy a new pump right now. So, I could really use it. I know that is selfish and others may have a bigger need, but I can only ask that you consider me. Thanks!

  28. April Jacques says:

This would be wonderful to have. Im 13 weeks pregnant right now and with my last child I used a hospital pump. I had trouble with my milk supply and the pump really helped me. This would be great for my next baby. Thanks!

  29. cherice says:

Wow, what an amazing giveaway! I think it’s important to have the dad involved in feeding as well so this would work out great for us. It would be nice to get a little of sleep as well and let my huby do night shift! Thanks.

I didn’t read all the entries but 1. Kristin! Will say a prayer for you. God bless. I have nursed 3 little babies and pump for the one day I go to work. I just need to buy some new parts for the Medela I own. God bless all you mommies!

  32. I would love to win this for my friend Angela who is expecting baby #3. Her first two children were born when she was married to her first husband, who was not supportive of her to say the least! She is FINALLY with a man who is just as concerned with the baby’s health during the pregnancy and beyond. I know he will want to be a big part of the bf’ing process since he is so into knowing the stats on the benefits. This pumping system would give him the chance to bond through feeding, and also give Ang a chance to get some rest while Daddy took over. Hope we win! She would be so happy!

I had planned to stay home with my child. Unfortunately because of the economic situation we can’t afford for me to give up my job. I want my child to have breast milk and not formula. The only way we’ll be able to do it is if I can pump my own milk during my breaks. We have a lot to buy and what we have gotten we have got used from craigslist. It would be nice to have something new…especially a pump.

I had planned to stay home after I have my baby but because my husband has lost his job I am going to have to go back to work so I could really use this prize.

  36. Brad says:

Baby on the way and know we can’t be full-time stay at home parents. So this would help us do the right thing by feeding naturally while letting mommy get back to work so we can pay the bills. Thanks.

  37. Jennifer says:

I would love to win this for my best friend. After breastfeeding my daughter, I saw how very important it is to give your child breastmilk. She was the happiest, healthiest baby ever and I honestly feel it was from breastfeeding her! My best friend will be having her first baby soon and I know she wants to breastfeed as well. She saw just how much it helped my daughter for the whole 14 months that I breastfed and still to this day how healthy she is at 3 1/2! My friend will have to go back to work after her 6 weeks off with her new baby and I know this breast pump and feeding set would benefit her so much and help to ensure that she can still give her baby breast milk while working too! Thank you so much for offering such a rewarding package for a mother to have!

  38. Dianna says:

LOVE this giveaway. A breast pump is such a major expense and I love that Medela and you recognize what a great giveaway this is! I was excited to enter, but realized after reading a few entries that others definitely need it more than I do (I already have a Medela, but it’s going to be on it’s 4th kiddo so I was being cautious…I’m hoping it lasts!).

Just wanted to say good work with the giveaway!

  39. Carrie Miyake says:

This pump would make my return to work much smoother. I recently had a baby girl and while I get to stay home with her for 3 months, I would still like to breastfeed her after I have to go back to work. This pump would allow me to discretely pump while at work and provide the best mile for my baby.

  40. Naomi says:

I’m not entering for myself. My dear friend had a baby in November, and has been working hard to exclusively breastfeed him since. She found out a few weeks ago that she has supply issues (her little guy is still barely 8 lbs)and has to pump at each feeding to try and stimulate supply. So she is nursing, then giving him a bottle of breastmilk donated to her by another dear and incredibly awesome mommy friend of ours, then pumping. In a few weeks, she has to go back to work an hour and a half away from home because her husband was laid off in July and has been unable to find work. I’d love for her to receive this pump so she can have a pumping station at home and at work to make it as convenient as possible. Thank you for the opportunity, and good luck choosing your winner:)

  41. Melanie B says:

when I had my daughter she was 5 weeks premature, it took her about 4 weeks and a lot of patience to get her to really latch well and nurse properly. In the meantime I pumped with my Isis breast pump to give her the breastmilk and to avoid giving her formula. It wasn’t the greatest pump and I really had to work to get the milk out. We are ttc number two and I plan on exclusively breastfeeding the next one as well. I would love to have this to help me with EBF and being able to go out when I need to!

  42. Lachelle says:

I successfully breastfed my daughter for a full 12 months. Unfortunately I couldn’t ever afford my own breastpump and managed to borrow one for a few months before the person needed it back. As I prepare to have another child in the next year, I’m already trying to figure out if I can afford one this time but it’s not looking so great in this economy!

  43. It wouldn’t benefit me at all, it would however greatly benefit my sister who would LOVE to have this!

  44. Autumn H. says:

I have so little opportunity to be away from my baby because I don’t have a pump. Don’t get me wrong I love to be with him BUT sometimes it would be nice to go to the grocery store, etc and not be worried that he’ll be crying for hunger. No formula in the house, so I’m always afraid that I need to be with him!

WOW – This is a great giveaway! I will do my best to explain the need I have for this breast pump set, but please forgive me -I am and awful writer. I am very aware of the importance and need to breast feed your baby! I am a nurse, and have learned all about it. My passion has always been labor and deliver, and nursery, for I love Mother’s and Baby’s. I myself have been the one to talk with new mothers to explain to them the benifits of breastfeeding. And my journey does not end there. I have recently been involved in a ministry that is starting in my small town. The churches of out community have joined together to open a crisis pregnancy center. This will be available to those who become pregnant, and just need somewhere to turn to in search for hope. There will be so many things involved in this center, including providing the new mothers with things they will need for there baby. I have started a collectiong of baby supplies. Not knowing if I will have a boy of girl, I am collecting for both. I will continue collecting items for myself, as well as for this ministry. Because I will have to return to work after an oh so short maternity leave :( , I would love to win this pump set for myself, however, I would also love to donate this wonderful kit to the crisis pregnancy center after my use. I have been 100% dedicated to this idea of breastfeading, and as for me, there is no other option. Thanks for this opportunity!

I’m a resident pumper. I have been pumping for my kids for a year each, as I currently work full time. I have a 6 month old and only pump single sided at this point and don’t need a double pump if I had a single one!
My mother in law is a known LC who works in a hospital setting and breastfeeding is second nature to me. I’ve been asked from time to time to test out various breastfeeding products, and I am good at spreading the word.
I’ve never tried the Medela Swing, though I’ve recommended it to people as the best single electric out there, and would love a chance to see for myself how it works :)
And the medela storage bottles are a lifesaver. That’s how I store my milk in the freezer!

[Oh no! My skirt just got soaking wet from overflowing my bottle! I told you -- pumping is my life :) ]

    Thanks for a fantastic giveaway!

  48. Elizabeth says:

I borrowed a pump for #1 and had to give it back, so now I’m in the market for a new pump for #2 (due in Sept). This would help immensely, seeing how tights things are these days.

  49. brett says:

we just found out we’re expecting our third child in august of this year. while we’re very excited, we’re also very surprised, and unprepared. i literally finished giving all of our baby things away, including my trusty medela pump, not 3 weeks before christmas. oops! anyway, having had a breast reduction in 2003 i was told i’d never breastfeed, let alone pump a drop of milk. pumping helped me get some sort of supply to minimize the amount of formula my daughter had, and then my son- who had almost no formula- and who at 17+ months is still nursing.

  50. Marci says:

I also believe in the importance of Bfing.
I bf my 1st dd for 9 months until I had to go back to work. Back then (1984) they didn’t have nice pumps like they have now.
My 2nd dd I bf for 15 months.
My 3rd dd I bf for 18 months.
My 4th and final dd I bf for 22 months. It was a very sad day for me 1 year ago when I stopped bfing for my last and final time.
However, I taught my oldest daughter the importance of bfing. When she had my grandaughter 3 years ago after she had went back to work she continued bfing by pumping EVERYDAY for 1 year! I was so proud of her. She is now pg again and due in August. She also plans to continue bfing while working, again for 1 year. Her pump failed her in the last month of pumping so she is in need of a new one.
I know how hard it is and the dedication it takes so I would be thrilled to present her with this special prize pack.

  51. Katharine says:

This would allow me to run errands while leaving the baby home with my husband. My old pump died and so I am taking the baby with me everywhere I go, not always very convenient.

  52. Heidi says:

This would definately be great to have! I’m currently going to college so having an electric pump would definately make things a whole lot easier!

  53. Jenna says:

While I myself wish I was able to breastfeed more than I actually was able, I definitely hope in future pregnancies I will have such an oppurtunity.

Beings I do not know when I will have the chance to have another little one, I would actually love to win this for a program that has helped me immensely. While obviously it won’t be a “group” thing, the Youth And Shelter Services program here in Ames could definitely benefit from this as a donation. I am enrolled in their Stork’s Nest program as well as Healthy Futures and it is truly a lifeline for me. I can call with any questions I might have or even just to vent about a frustration.

I know that the coordinators that come out to households would be able to find a very worthy family or most likely, a single mother that would definitely benefit from this. The Stork’s Nest program awards moms and families for doing things that benefit a healthy pregnancy. You earn points for activities (completing a semester of school, prenatal visits, well-child, WIC appts, etc) that you can in turn earn for purchasing baby needs. Through blogging, I have been able to earn items for them before they just gave out to individuals they know could use them. When I had both Aubrey and Kelsie, at that time they did not have a breast pump that I could “purchase” with my points. Whether YSS would decide to use this for someone to earn or just to give to someone they know would benefit, I would feel great being able to give back to a program that continues to help me.

  54. I love the idea of breastfeeding. In fact, that’s what I tried to do with my firstborn. But unlike other newborns, he sucked so strong, he literally broke my nipple or rather my nipple skin. The lactation consultant was concerned and advised the use of a nipple shield. Result – kiddo refused the nipple when Mommy was finally back home. After a lot of tears, guilt and sleepless nights, I gave in and rented a breast pump for those overnight hours when I was literally falling asleep on the feeding baby and couldn’t hold the nipple shield to my nipple while he nursed!

Thanks to an electric breast pump, I was able to nurse him for nearly a year, which is far longer than I’d ever expected to, given our rocky start.

And now, with the second one I’m expecting, I hope to use the pump again and have lots pumped and stored for when my milk finally dries up.

Thanks for this truly wonderful prize no Mom should be without.

I have nursed all of our children, and would not consider any thing other than that. The bennift to both mother & baby far out weighs any inconvienece in my eyes. However with 2 very active little ones and now facing the need to go back to work. A electric breast pump could be a life saver and a hand saver. A hand pump is great for occational use, but I believe when you need to pump daily that a electic is the only way to go.

Thank you so much for offering such a great giveaway, I am sure whomever wins will be very deserving. Any mommy that offers her baby breast milk in any form is one fantasic mom.

  56. Lana says:

I’m due in July this year. Breastfeeding for me is a connection b/n a mother and a child that can’t be developed anywhere else. This is somethign unique and at the same time dramatic. It created a union and serves as a start up of the mother-baby relationship. I don’t consider any options, but breastfeeding. This is the only way for me.

  57. Mary A says:

If I won this breast pump would go to my sister. She just had an emergency c-section on Feb. 1 to deliver her twins, a little boy and a little girl. The little boy is still in the NICU and was initially fed through a tube but they have moved him to a bottle. The little girl is still having some issues but seems to at least know what breasts are for although they have also had to resort to some finger feeding just to make sure she gets the calories. They have been fortunate enough to have access to donor milk since my sister’s milk hasn’t come in yet. My sister feels very strongly about the babies getting breast milk. They are also estimating that it will take longer then usual for it to arrive since she lost so much blood during the surgery. They have been using the breast pump at the hospital and I think are planning on renting a pump when they come home both to get her milk to come in and later so she can have help feeding the wee ones. Thanks for the giveaway.

  58. Barbara J says:

My daughter is already using this breast pump but as a rental, which she can ill afford. The pump has been incredibly important to her both physically (helping increase her milk production) and emotionally (relieving the angst of not having enough milk). I’d love to be able to present her with a pump of her own and allow her to take back the rental. Not only would it save her money, but someone else could benefit from the returned pump.

  62. Crystal says:

I am the mother of one child, born almost 6 weeks premature. I planned to breast feed exclusively, but when he came early, we realized that would not be an option. When he was born he did not have the suck reflex, so we had to feed him with a tube. Luckily, I was able to pump enough milk using a pump in the hospital to feed him through the tubes. When he was able to come home, we tried for 8 long weeks to breast feed, but he just couldn’t latch on. We went to the lactation specialist more times than I can count. All the while I was pumping, making sure to keep my milk supply up & feeding him with the bottle after long, unsuccessful breastfeeding sessions. I soon came down with mastitis that kept coming back. I had to go to a specialist who prescribed Diflucan & Erythromiacin for 6 weeks! My mastitis finally cleared up! After 8 weeks of trying to breast feed, I decided that it was more important to take care of him & myself than to make us all miserable trying to breastfeed. So, I began pumping exclusively. I pumped every 3 hours, day & night. I would set my alarm in the middle of the night, pump for 30 minutes, then go in & feed my son. I was exhausted, but I felt good about giving him fresh milk. The more I pumped, the more milk I made. I was making 72 ounces of milk a day. My breast pump died & I was in trouble. I had to go 2 hours away to get a new one (they don’t sell them in my small town). This was after only 6 months of pumping. I got my new pump & I was back in business. I pumped until my son was 12 1/2 months old. The last week of pumping, my 2nd pump died. We are planning to get pregnant in the next few months & I have decided to pump exclusively with the new baby because I don’t want to go through the pain, frustration & heartache that I went through last time. However, I need a new pump. This couldn’t have come at a better time.
    Thanks!

I am currently exclusively breastfeeding my four month old. I give her bottles with expressed milk when we go out to dinner with family, I want to leave her with our older daughter to go out with my husband, or for my husband to give her if I have a doctor’s appointment. I currently hand express, but it is very time consuming. It also requires two hands, one to hold the bottle and one to express. Well, this infuriates my daughter and has become so unpleasant for both of us. I bought one cheap pump and thought it was going to rip my nipple off. :-) I really could use a good quality pump.

We have twins and money is tight since i stay home with them. I have been breastfeeding and using a manual pump for the past 2 months. The manual pump makes your hand cramp after awhile but its all we have. I feed all day because it takes so long to build up supply with the manual. This would make it much more convenient for my husband to help with more feedings. I feel like i always have a child latched on. I never get a break…lol We have had to start supplementing with formula and the babies are having alot of trouble with it. I wish i could have this to help produce more milk so we can cut back on the formula.

I am expecting my second child in July and would love to be selected to win this electric breast pump. With my first child, I had a very difficult time breastfeeding once I went back to work. Ultimately, my return to work led to the end of my breastfeeding. I think having this breast pump would be a great advantage and may help me to continue breastfeeding once I return to work this time.

  69. Don’t enter me, I just wanted to say that I have breastfed two children successfully and Medela has been a HUGE part of that! I love my Medela Pump In Style and it was a complete life saver when I was a part time post grad student and part time teacher with my first child, and again while working part time with my second!I tried a cheaper (non medela, sorry I cheated on you!) pump before I got the pump in style and it was so frustrating, I would pump forever and get like one drop. I just wanted to cry. But the electric Medela pump was easy and fast.
Also the bottles have been BPA free from the start which was awesome to learn during the BPA scare when my baby was 5 months old! I was freaking out, but I could rest assured knowing our Medela bottles were safe; we had been using them all along!
    Love you, Medela!

I really had problems when I breastfed my last baby and am pregnant again. Last time my baby ended up in the hospital 2 times in the first few months which made nursing difficult as I my husband, Mom, and I took turns staying around the clock with her. I also had a lot of trouble with my C section so that was difficult also. I ended up using a manual pump but had mastitis 2 times. Both times I felt ill and it was difficult using my manual pump as it didn;t work very well. Finally I had to start supplementing formula because of my problems and I feel if a powerful and good pump this might not have happened. Add to that after I finished with nursing I had a lump and ended up needing a test on it which was so stressful while waiting. Luckily it was Ok but I have to wonder if it happened because of my mastitis. I really feel a good pump would help me so much!

My firstborn had colic and, after trying everything else, it was suggested that we try him on formula. It worked like a charm. The next day the colic was gone. I used an electric pump because I thought after a while I might be able to breastfeed him again, or at least feed him the stored milk. He was never able to tolerate the breastmilk but a friend used it for her daughter, who had a mouth deformity and was not able to breastfeed directly. My friend was working as hard as she could to pump enough, but was still coming up short. So it was a real blessing.

With my second, I nursed him for quite a while, and the electric pump allowed me some freedom to travel, pump & go out, etc. It also allowed my husband to experience feeding the baby.

Now, another friend is borrowing my pump. She couldn’t afford it herself, and her son is tongue tied so it is allowing him to “nurse”.

Electric pumps are great in so many ways!

  73. Shannon says:

I am a mom of 3 boys and breastfed all of my boys. I did use a pump occassionally (i.e. for the babysitter watching my baby – so the baby would have some milk if we were out for more than a couple of hours). However, I am not trying to win this for myself – I am trying to win it for my sister.

She is pregnant with her first child – a little girl due in June. She will have to work to help support her family. She wants her baby to have breast milk over formula, but just doesn’t have it in the budget to buy a nice breast pump.

I usually enter these contests for myself, but knowing how much she needs one, I am more than happy to enter for my sister. :)

  74. Nikki says:

With my daughter, I had trouble breastfeeding. I was afraid she was not getting enough. I could not “see” her drinking the milk, so I couldn’t be certain. I am also very modest, and felt uncomfortable feeding in front of people besides my husband. I envy women that don’t mind feeding their child in public… I just can’t do it. I bought a pump and began pumping once a day, and continued to breastfeed… I only gave her the “surplus” milk when it wasn’t convenient to breastfeed, or when we were not at home. I am now pregnant with #2 and would like to breastfeed again. I have moved several times since my daughter was born, and lost many (if not all) parts to my pump. I will be moving again soon, and must use all of my “extra” money to pay for the move and can not afford another GOOD breast pump.

  75. carli says:

I desperately need one of these but can not afford one! I would love to win!

  76. jessica s says:

With number one I felt pressure to not use the pump as I only had a handpump and it was not the most comfortable to use. I would love the freedom with number two to be able to pump and leave milk for a sitter or hubby and go enjoy some me time…I didn’t get much of that for at least 6 months with #1.

I have a very sweet 7 week old baby girl who was born unexpectedly 4 weeks early. After laboring for 42 hours and then pushing for 3 more I had to have a c-section. I hemorrhaged pretty bad. We are breastfeeding pretty good now but Lily isn’t gaining very much weight. Having this pump would help me increase my supply and help Lily grow.

  78. Amy Gangloff says:

Having this electric breast pump would be great because I like the fact of being able to take them to my mom’s and still having breast milk for baby. If I’m out somewhere and don’t want to breastfeed I can use these bottles. I love how this machine works too, making it easier to come out. Thanks

I am a mother of a 2 year old little boy and expecting our second son in 4 weeks. My husband is in the Army and just deployed for a 3rd time last week. He will be missing the birth and the whole first year as he did with our first son. I am going to be very busy raising both of our sons alone and trying to breastfeed and keep up with an energetic 2 year old! Therefore this pump would help me immensely! With my first son I was only able to breastfeed for the first 4 months, due to us both having thrush. Breastfeeding was an amazing experience, yet painful and I was not able to do it as long as i would have liked to. I purchased a pump with my first son that unfortunately for the money spent was not of great quality. I no longer have a pump and would be honored to have the opportunity to win this one incase thrush is an issue again I will still be able to provide my son with the nutrients of breast milk. It will also give me the opportunity to spend equal time with both children as I will not have help with my husband being away. Thank you for the consideration!

  80. mrs. mills says:

After my son died of SIDS last month i decided to keep pumping and donate the breast milk to help other families that could use it in memory of him. Knowing that i am helping families who couldn’t provide milk has been the only thing to help me through grieving. I only have a manual pump b/c my son was fed directly from my breast. We don’t have the money after all the funeral costs for a electric pump but it would be such a great help if I win. Not only would it help me but also help the babies that i provide milk for. But if someones else has more of a need i completely feel they should get it, after all i do have a manual pump. It just would be so much more efficient. I feel like i pump all day with the manual. Thank you for the contest and providing the pump for a family that really needs it. I think breast milk is the best for babies so i will continue to help out and pump! Thanks again.

It just so happens that I stumbled upon this giveaway at the perfect moment in my life. I have had the opportunity, the luxury, and the pleasure of staying home with my little man for 8 months. I have been successfully exclusively breastfeeding him (no supplementing at all) the entire time. I’d really like to continue to nurse for as long as he’ll let me. Unfortunately (but thankfully – especially in times like these) I have to go back to work. I’m nervous and weary about taking my manual pump (I still use the hospital issued one) to work because I know it will take way too long and I’m afraid that I will get discouraged and frustrated and not want to pump at work. Therefore, not being able to keep my supply up for these last few months that my little man will let me share this amazing time with him. It would be just perfect to win these pump. It’s incredible how things fall into your lap and the right moment.

  83. Marcy says:

One of my friends has been in and out of the hospital and court for 3 years recovering from a hit and run accident. Continually in the ICU she and her husband had given up hope of having children naturally. Then last year a miracle happened, she became pregnant! Last month she gave birth to twin girls, both perfectly healthy.
She is set on raising the girls organically and keeping them as healthy as possible. She wants to stay on breast milk until they transition totally to solids. But this also will take a toll on her physically because she is weaker than most people. Having a nice pump so that when she does not have the energy to produce would be a blessing for her and help her continue with her goals for these beautiful baby girls!

  84. Laura says:

I am determined to breastfeed my baby girl, who is due in May, and am doing everything I can to educate myself and prepare for successful breastfeeding, but I would also love to have a breast pump and BPA-free bottles on hand so my husband can feed the baby. He works two jobs so I can stay home with our daughter, and I am trying to get as many baby items as I can free or used so he doesn’t have to work extra to pay for baby stuff. Every dollar saved goes into baby’s college fund or means more time we spend together as a happy new family. Thanks for the giveaway. :)

  85. Erica G says:

This would be great for my sister. I know she is worried about going back to work and being able to express herself. This would make it easier for her to do it wherever. Thanks so much!

  86. I tried breast feeding my first daughter but she just would not latch on and I really didn’t have the support around me to help me figure it all out. My second daughter also had troubles breast feeding and I just gave up too quickly. With both I pumped but really hated that I couldn’t figure the breast feeding out. After having my second daughter we figured we were done having kids, so I gave my breast pump away. Then we changed our mind. We want another one! And this time I am so committed to making breast feeding work! It would be great to have a pump again to help. As soon as I find out I’m pregnant I’m going to start meeting with a LLL rep to get some tips and help!

  91. Crys says:

I’m a full-time working woman who expects my first baby in August. Due to the research on the benefits of breastfeeding, I really want to endeavour to feed my baby breastmilk until at least six months. My sister-in-law is and her child has had hardly any illnesses since he was born last September. My husband will be spending more time at home than me (he’s a teacher – the rest of the time the baby will be at daycare) and I need a way to provide for the baby while I’m not physically around. Pumping is the best solution for me, as I can’t leave work in the middle of the day, but I can take a break to pump. It’s efficient and will be a regular process, which is what friends who breastfeed told me is very important, particularly for regular relief and milk production. We’re also low on funds, trying to buy a house, first child expenses, etc. and would appreciate the gift.

Thank you for this opportunity. I recently gave birth to my daughter and I definitely believe in the benefits of breastfeeding! I have been extremely lucky in that she is a very good “nurser” and we have not had any issues with breastfeeding. Having a baby born during the winter months, I realize that the antibodies she gets from my milk will help protect her from many of the colds and other illnesses that always make a strong stand during these wintry days. I LOVE the one-on-one associated with nursing my beautiful little girl, watching her as she watches me and she is exclusively breastfed right now. The bonding that takes place during these quiet, relaxing times in our day is truly a miracle and I will treasure these memories for a lifetime. (I know that may sound corny, but she is actually nursing as I write this and the reality of this gift is literally bringing tears to my eyes! – I am SUCH a sap!)

Anyway, my little angel is almost three months old now and soon I will need to be returning to my job. I would LOVE the opportunity to win the Medela pump so that I can continue to exclusively provide my milk for her, even while I have to be separated from her and she will be with her caregiver. Medela is the absolute BEST choice in breast pumps – I have done the research and I know this is fact. This prize opportunity is incredibly generous and I thank you for both the contest and considering me for this prize.

I am currently expecting baby #2. I didn’t breastfeed with my first one; however, I would like to try it with this one. This would help so that I could work and give my child the benefits of breast milk.

  99. Gayle says:

I have my 3rd baby due this September. Needless to say this is the suprise baby ,we thought we were done having them . I got rid of everything “Baby” before we made a move across the US ! I can’t live wihtout a Medela Pump!

  100. Melissa O. says:

I am breastfeeding my 10 month old and am going to be breastfeeding for at least another year. As he is getting older Daddy has wanted to take him out for boy time and I would love to be able to pump for him so that he can have mommy’s milk with him even when mommy isn’t. Not to mention I want one more and am planning on breastfeeding the next one full time also. I hear that Medela is a really great brand! Thank you.
