Karen Stein created Cricket & Monkey when her grandson was born and she couldn’t find anything she wanted to buy. Using a strong eye for color and texture paired with a design and manufacturing background, she has successfully created a baby line that stands out from the rest.

Karen has years of experience in manufacturing and product development. She has worked as a design consultant, owned retail boutiques and taught at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. She is a proud grandmother of two whose nicknames are, what else? Cricket and Monkey.

The beauty of blog giveaways is that you often get to try products you 1) never knew existed 2) didn’t know you needed it until you got it and 3) get the opportunity to share that great find with other moms. A few weeks ago, those 3 things brought me to Cricket and Monkey. I entered a blog giveaway and it turns out I won! I was sent this beautiful little package containing the travel/play mat in Geo Pink.



One thing I’ve never spent money on for my kids was a play mat. I just never saw the need, until this one arrived. You see, we have hardwood floors which get cold and dusty. Those two problems kept my kids out of the living room or romping on the furniture rather than sitting quietly for some morning cartoons. This play mat changed that for us. Not only is the bottom waterproof but the top is soft and comfy for the kids. Once I laid this on the floor, I haven’t been able to keep my kids off of it (and yes, my 7yr old son too). Which brings me to the size. This mat is a very roomy 3ft x 3ft, leaving plenty of room for my toddler and her older brother.

When my baby girl arrives in a few short weeks, this will be the perfect play zone for her tummy time. As the weather warms up, we’ll definitely be bringing this outside to let the kids have a cozy spot to sit while avoiding the yard bugs.
