Chefmate is NOT my friend

I know my husband really tried to do a good job with Christmas shopping but word to the wise…stick with Black & Decker or Hamilton Beach.

He knew I had been wanting a toaster oven for my Toaster Strudel obsession and just to have an occasional slice of toast. I actually owned one in a previous life, but there was this incident where umm I sort forgot about something I was toasting and it caught fire. Then I stupidly ran to grab a cup of water to douse the flames. Luckily I have a husband that’s a tad more brilliant than I am at times and reminded me that electrical appliances and water don’t mix!

Back to the Chefmate from hell. So I decide to make some toast a few days ago for my Chipped Beef Gravy. Everything went great, the toast was lightly browned, smelled great…but then I go to flip it over. Burned black! Fudge! I wasn’t in the mood to do it again, so I just scraped the layer of black crustiness off my bread.

Today, I decide to try out the baking aspect of this not so lovely toaster oven. Wanna see?

Chefmate Toaster Burns Cookies

Yeah, lovely job it did on those chocolate chip cookies. The sad part is they had only been in there for half the recommended baking time. And yes I checked to make sure I put it on the right temperature. So there you have it ladies, my WORST Christmas gift of 2008. Next year I’m asking for a gift card.

Think you can top mine? Check out Momdot’s contest for the worst Christmas gifts.

  1. I hate toaster oven’s. I have NEVER been able to cook anything in one without burning it. The last one I had I made a promise to myself that if I ever owned another one I would regift it to the person who gave it to me, filled with burnt food, and a note which simply says “Enjoy”.

Cat don’t feel too bad. I threw out an entire pot of black bean soup I made today because I added too much onion and crushed red pepper. It was so potent I almost gagged! Good thing I taste tested before pawning it off on the hubby. At least your mishap was due to bad cookware. Mine was because I was being cocky and did not properly follow the recipe! :)

I get the same results with most cooking gadgets lol.

Toaster ovens aren’t my friends either. It always comes out black no matter what.

I got rid of my husbands toaster over when we were dating, I hated it! Sorry yours isn’t a good one.

Aww, that sucks. Do you think you could take it back? I would.

I used to have a toaster oven that I LOVED. Hubby and I got it as a wedding shower present. But, when we moved into our first home together, we had NO counters and the toaster oven had to go. Man, do I miss that thing.

Sucks that yours doesn’t work right. Toaster ovens are a great idea – when they work properly!

And thanks for making me hungry. ;)

Ugh, so sorry! We have a no appliance rule! Hee hee! I love our toaster oven! It’s a convection oven…I don’t know which brand though, I’m too lazy to get up & check!
