In the midst of a time where communities (online) are becoming divided and showing ugly colors, I thought it would be nice to be reminded that there’s still a time and a place where communities can pull together and show their beautiful colors – in the form of holiday lights!
This past weekend we piled the family into the car to do some sight seeing around town and came upon a small neighborhood that is just bursting at the seams with holiday spirit. Just three days after Thanksgiving, homes and yards were already lit up with some amazing holiday light scenes and I couldn’t help myself from taking photos. As we crept past each home I was amazed at the time these families spent creating such spirited displays for the holidays. Neighbors were out and about, mingling with each other and helping each other add even more decorations. It was a nice reminder that there’s still a loving community spirit out there somewhere.

It’s true Cat. No matter the differences I think we can all see one thing the spirit of the holidays. No matter how ugly any one things one another is, inside we know. At least I hope…maybe not for some.
I love Christmas.
This is one of my children’s favorite past times. I always make them a cup of hot chocolate the week before Christmas and we get in the car and ride around to look at the Christmas lights. I enjoy it myself as well because Christmas lights have been one of my favorite parts of the holidays.
I too have noticed the nasty division in the online community. (Especially where the mom blogs are concerned.) I do my best to stay out of it unless I feel really strong about a certain subject. I know it is beyond unrealistic to ask everyone to get along, because even in the real world this isn’t attainable. But it isn’t unrealistic to ask people to stop harrassing/berating other blogger. I believe in clicking the “x” if I don’t like what a person is saying.
I admire this blog, because in the midst of the chaos you always manage to keep it nice and drama free.
Take care,
Shynea
We love driving around and seeing the Christmas lights too! These are gorgeous.
Also thanks for the gentle reminder.
How fun! I bet the kids loved it!
We have a neighborhood like this called Candy Cane Lane. The homeowners in a whole subdivision decorate and there are long lines of cars. It takes awhile to get through, but we go every year. It’s so fun for the kids {and yes even us grownups} to go see.
Such lovely lights… we love to go around the town here and see the lights, we have several homes that go ALL out putting up lights and decorations. We even have one that calls itself the “Griswold Home”. However, the entire street allows the family to put lighted candy canes on both sides of the street and when lit, it looks like a landing strip from an airfield. UGH!!
Wow, homes in your area go all out. We haven’t put up our decorations yet. My nephew and his wife have been staying here up until this weekend and we just haven’t had the space.
Lights look beautiful. I love this time of the year!!!
