Consequences of Raising Daughters

It wasn’t until our daughter’s were born that I realized how much more difficult it would be to raise a girl. Everyone had always told us, “girls are so much easier” “girls potty train quicker” “girls are less messy”… uh huh. Sounds nice right?

Well, they aren’t raising MY daughters. The truth is, my 2 year old daughter, Kaydence, is far more messier than my son. She won’t hesitate to grab some poo out of her diaper and squish it between her fingers or sit smack down in the middle of a mud puddle. Potty training? Not happening. Easier? If you mean not having to dress her because she’d rather run naked through the house or not having to feed her because she’ll climb 2 chairs, a counter and a cabinet to seek out mommy’s hidden cookies.

The real kicker to raising girls is the hidden talent they are naturally born with – the ability to manipulate you out of your cash with the bat of an eyelash.

pink dora coatHere we were, just casually walking through JCPenny looking for nothing more than a few small items and I mentioned that Emma was growing out of Kaydee’s old footed pajamas. As we’re browsing the racks, a Dora coat caught my eye because of the big SALE sign above. I said, “hey Jon, how cute is this Dora coat!”…he rolls his eyes and says, “yeah, it’s cute”.

I placed it back on the rack with hopes that Kaydee hadn’t seen it, but it was too late…”Dora, Dora, Dora…my Dora coat mommy, Daddy my Dora coat, put it on” and she starts stripping right there in the middle of the store.

And that’s when my husband realized he had no control. “oh daddy, my Backpack, my Dora” (in the sweetest, most pathetic voice a 2 year old can muster up)

The next words out of my husband’s mouth, “put it in the cart, but she HAS to wait for Christmas to have it”….HA HA HA…sucker! I totally would not have bought that coat, I’m immune to her…but daddy’s just aren’t.

We have the same problem! M is 5 (well almost 6) now & I can almost swear that Daddy has SUCKER tattooed on his forehead! I tell her no & she goes to Daddy & he makes some sort of deal w/her. I, too, have an immunity to her…

I’m pretty sure with as adorable as your daughter is I would be a sucker too but she’s not mine so that’s ok LOL but….

Girls are sooooo not easy to raise. My oldest daughter has driven me batty for the past 9 years!!! But her Daddy has been wrapped around her little finger since the minute we found out she was a girl in the first place. Now my youngest daughter has learned to just say “Daddy, I will never love another boy – only you.” and she gets everything she wants!! They are such suckers aren’t they!!!!!

  3. Catherine says:

LOL Tell your husband I said SUCKER!!! LOL
That’s too darn funny. My husband is just as bad though. We go to the store with Sarah and I say something like OMG She would totally love this..and Poof..it’s in the cart. lol my living room looks like Sarah’s playroom!

    Omg that is toooo funny!!
We have a 4 year old, and a 5 month old, and I find MY girls easy to raise lol. Except my 4 year old is getting into the attitude stage, which is a whole other story. Funny thing though, my husband is pretty immune to her now! I think I am more the one that wants to get her what she wants, so its a good thing he is with me most of the time we go shopping (unless he is deployed of course lol) Or else we would end up spending more than necessary (but I still get by with it sometimes LOL) =)

Awwww…what a nice daddy. My dh does the same thing but mainly because he likes to head to the checkout counter with a cart full. lol Girls do have that power over their daddys dont they? lol It’s a really cute coat!

  6. Kayla says:

Aw! Yes ma’am, boys may have natural athletic abilities, but girls have the power of persuasion just with one, pitiful look. LOL

I have three girls. My oldest daughter has been the hardest of all! She’s extremely messy and full of attitude! And my 4 year old daughter is following in her footsteps, I think.

My son, on the other hand, is almost always agreeable and obedient and usually picks up after himself (AND his sisters!) without even being asked!

Thank goodness I’m having another BOY!

  8. Victoria says:

OK that is a REALLY CUTE backpack. I don’t know if I could have said no! :)

You know I think we have the same problem here…daughter and her Daddy! That’s what is happening to us all the time. Hubby gets everything Princess wants…and the voice…

  12. Tiffany says:

Sounds like she has daddy wrapped around her finger. That is a cute accessory to have the back pack on the back. I’ve never heard of a little kid that loves Dora so much. You were Boots, right? ;) I expect to see some adorable pictures of her in it!

  13. so cute, and scary LOL We have a 9 mo old daughter. I am currently a stay at home mommy, so i dont ask for much anymore, and have gotten used to it. Everytime we go into a toy store/toys dept it is DADDY that is picking up toys and playing with them so he can watch Savanah’s reactions (to see if she like a certain toy or not) just last night this happened at walmart, and daddy bougt her a small stuffed monkey. it is sooo cute.
Even when i was pregnant, there were night that i could not get little miss sweet pea to kick for me but the instant daddy touched my belly she would go crazy with kicks. so adorable. mine is truely a daddy;s girl thur & thru

  14. Luckily, i don’t have daughter – just 3 cowboys, er luckily? Anyway, great info about parenting, i have published it on my blog below :

  15. Yes who ever told you girls were easier to raise is crazy! They are not and they only get harder as they get older ! Sorry Cat :) My girls have the same affect on their dad

  16. Eileen says:

and MY hubby is the daddy’s girl sucker LEGEND!!! I have 4 daughters (and 2 boys) and they can be very manipulative when shopping especially…but for DADDY it can be ANYTHING at ANYTIME! ANd, we cant afford for us to be so generous. I think older girls especially are so prone to being left out or even made fun of if they dont fit in or join the “Have’s ” group instead of the “Have nots” group. Neither of us hate to buy into that in our very YUPPY town (of which we dont really fit financially) but is SO hard when you have those little “puppy dog eyes look” flashed at you. Ohhhh…they have such MAGIC!!

OH, and the messy part? my youngest was the most horrible EATER…always a pigpen she left where ever she was…and STILL! SHe’s 10 and worse than our 2 and 4 year old grandkids. She is smart and beautiful and sweet…but Lord she is a MESS! It is just her laid back personality!

I have two boys and no daughters, so I can’t compare. But honestly, even as a single mom, I found it quite easy to raise them. Probably I’m just really lucky and I thank goodness for that! Good luck with your daughter. She sounds like a sweetheart!
