Have you ever heard of such a thing?
Well, first of all, I’m not on a diet but if I was I certainly wouldn’t mind adding donuts to it. Donuts are sweet, covered in thick warm icing and just hit the spot on a Sunday morning. The only problem is I tend to regret them at the end of the year when I tally up the weight I’ve gained from my donut a week habit.
This past week our family was introduced to a donut I we can enjoy every Sunday morning and not have to worry about the repercussions from indulging in.
Holey Donuts
Our family was sent 3 varieties of Holey Donuts…
Low Fat Cinnamon Buns Middles – described as “Something new, exciting, great tasting and all for only 80-100 calories! You may think of them as Mini Low Fat Cinnamon Buns but we hand make every one of these to be only the best part of the cinnamon bun, The Middle! Thus, Holey Donuts introduces another industry first – Low Fat Cinnamon Bun Middles!”
Jumbo Reduced Fat Cinnamon Buns – described as “super moist and delicious, yet has only 5 grams of fat compared to the Cinnamon Buns at Cinnabon with 54 grams of Fat. These sinfully delicious, handmade cinnamon buns blend the flavors of cinnamon, glaze and vanilla with a bit of apple and spice. Replacing the butter, fat and hydrogenated oils found in other cinnamon buns with our mouth watering apple smear which contains real bits of fresh apple and cinnamon.
Jumbo Reduced Fat Blueberry Vanilla Cinnamon Buns – described as “The taste combination of a light blueberry smear throughout, accentuated with vanilla extracts, freshly ground cinnamon and our famous fat free glaze is too good to describe. We then top it off with a wonderful hand applied ribbon of Vanilla Frosting!”
Our thoughts on Holey Donuts
Arriving on our doorstep, freshly packed in dry ice, these cinnamon bun varieties went from freezer to microwave to mouth in less than 2 minutes. Without mentioning to my husband that each cinnamon bun was reduced fat, I served him a plate of all three and asked his opinion. He said, “these are tasty.” After letting him know the low fat and calorie count, he said, “hmm I wouldn’t have guessed that.”
What can I say, he’s a man of few words…likely because he was busy munching down the buns. In fact, everyone in our family really enjoyed them. My son’s personal favorite was the Jumbo Cinnamon buns. He told me this evening, “I usually don’t like cinnamon, but these were really good, except the chunky parts.”
The truth is, had I not known they were 100 calories each beforehand, I wouldn’t have known the difference. Each cinnamon bun was sweet, soft and fresh. I especially liked that the cinnamon wasn’t too thick and overpowering.
Would I classify these donuts as diet worthy? Absolutely, in moderation of course.
