Launched in 2005 and emerging today as a major player in the global online retail sphere, EyeBuyDirect.com is a prescription eye wear website offering an extensive range of high quality, affordable frame and lens packages. The site offers its budget-conscious and style-savvy shoppers a fast, simple and efficient way to browse an extensive online catalogue, and enables them to purchase eyewear from the comfort of their own homes. Users have the added option of uploading their photo to ‘virtually’ try-on their desired eyeglasses, as well as receiving feedback and opinions from other users to help inform their decision – all contributing to a fun and interactive shopping experience.

Mom Tested

I’ve been wearing prescription eye glasses since I was 3 years old and diagnosed with a multitude of visual problems. With 23 years of eye glass wearing under my belt, I would say I’ve had a good deal of experience with the fitting and buying process. And of course, anyone that knows me, knows that I’m the pickiest woman in the world when it comes to choosing the right frames. It pained me each time one of my toddlers broke a pair because that meant I would have to trudge back into an eye wear store and blindly pick out new frames from a limited selection.

Then I heard about Eyebuydirect.com where I could virtually “Eye Try before you Buy” the selection frames with my own photo. I must admit, as someone with a busy life, this process really simplified the buying process because I didn’t have kids with me pulling down walls of frames. Even better, I could actually see what I would look like with the frames on, unlike going to an eye wear store where I would have to take off my glasses, try a pair on and not be able to see my reflection (due to the sample frames not having my prescription lenses in them).

The online process went like this:

1. Select the Eye Try online demo tool and upload a photo of myself.
2. Use the transform tool to scale and rotate my photo for proportional frame try on.
3. Select from the style menu to narrow my frame choices down with options like category, gender, color, and price.
4. Click and drag the frames to my face to see how they looked on me.

Ordering was just as easy, with a copy of my eye glass prescription in hand all I had to do was input the numbers and order my promotional frames.

If I were to rate the process and results on a scale from 1-10 (10 being best) in comparison to visiting a physical eye wear retailer, Eye Buy Direct would get an 8. Overall, I’m very satisfied with the end results which you can see for yourself.

The one thing I love more than not having to drive to an eye wear retailer with kids, is the number of frames to choose from. In fact, there were so many I loved, I already have another frame in mind to order as a back up pair if when my toddler breaks my new ones.

Mom Improvements

The downside to ordering eye glasses online is that they don’t arrive the same day. This can pose a problem if you’re in a pinch with broken glasses and no back up pair since they can take up to 14 days to arrive from order date. Another small issue I had was having to measure my pupilary distance which is often done for you when getting a new prescription. I would advise you to ask for the measurement before leaving your eye doctor’s office so you don’t have to do it at home.
