Family Size – Reader Poll

I’m guessing it’s pretty clear from the name of my blog that I have 3 kids, right? I thought so. I’m sure most of  you think I’m crazy as heck for having so many. Most days I think I AM crazy. I never dreamed I would have three little monsters, in fact, I never wanted or planned to have kids at all. It wasn’t until we got our first surprise that I realized this mom thing is truly amazing.

My husband and I have gone back and forth discussing the vasectomy ordeal. I’m sure I’ve mentioned this somewhere but we planned on having it done shortly after Kaydence was born, canceled on the doctor twice, and surprise…Emma was created. This time we’ve gone as far as contacting a doctor but haven’t set up the appointment yet. My dear old hubby starts talking last night about how he may not want to be done having children.

Scareeeeaaaach! (<—sound of tires squealing to a stop)

This is the man that I had to beg for 6 years just to have our second child!

He goes on to tell me he may change in his mind in a few years and wants the option open. Umm…sorry hun, I’m 26 and have this wonderful plan in place to get my body back before my metabolism takes a big middle age dip. I don’t want to be in my 30′s making more babies. I want to spend that time enjoying the ones I have. I just can’t handle any more surprises, I was never a fan of them anyways.

Anyways, all this got me to thinking about family sizes, what’s normal, what’s considered too big, too small, etc. And now I’m just wondering how many kids all of you have and how many you’d like to have.

  1. OK since you ask…I only planned for 3 but got 4. I’m I going crazy YES!! I think I could of very well of been satisfied with having just 3. BUT now that i have 4 I very well can’t shove the 4th one back up in there. With that being said my dh just got a vasectomy done this past January. (a wonderful doc in LaGrange) All I have to say is your very young and in 10 yrs you may feel differently or in 6 when all your little one’s are in school. Depending on finances. So if your not ready make sure you get something that can put off having surprised show up and you can make a more permanent decision when your ready. I was 38 when I had my last child and ok I’m a little older but I can tell you I enjoy my children so much more now than when I had them when I was younger only because I was a working mom. Good luck with your decision . SOrry for the book :)

Maybe I’m crazy. I have three but want one more. Actually I had my first two young and closer together about 2 1/2 years apart but my third is about 8 years younger than his sister and 10 1/2 years younger than his brother. We want one more (hopefully a girl) and then that is where we plan to stop. My older two fight A LOT and I’m hoping my youngest son won’t fight with his future sibling so much. It’s hard raising a tween boy, a prepubescent emotional girl and a one year old. Some days I want to pull my hair out (but it falls out enough on it’s own) and most days I am a referee and a maid. They drive me crazy! Still, I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

  4. So, I have 6. And my body probably couldn’t carry another, as bad as my back is. So it’s been almost decided that we’re done, but nothing has been done on the surgery end to seal that deal, so I can’t answer the last question because the jury is still out. We’re really good at surprises here in our family lol

Once your to three…Four isnt so bad. We went this weekend to the Zoo, we had my new baby, my 3 year old niece, my 5 year old cousin, my 11 year old step daughter, 12 year old step son and 11 year old niece.
We just had to utilize the older three to wrangle the 3 and 5 year olds.
Darn…the fun you can have w/ a vehicle load of kiddo’s! it’s amazing. Oh and…needing to take two vehicles because there are eight people..It’s awesome fun. But hey my back didn’t hurt..I let the older kids run after the younger ones..and then let the younger kids run loose in the water play area and let the older one’s supervise while I nursed the baby.

that’s the clue..have more kids AFTER the older kids are old enough to wrnagle the younger LOL…(by the way..the older kids did get five bucks a piece..and a trip to the movies..so it’s not like I MADE them help…they were bribed)
