Hot Toys of 2009 for Toddler Girls

This year is a big one in our house. Little Kaydence turned 2 and is fully capable of seeing something on the tv and saying “I want this! I want this!”. She sees it, she wants it. For the sake of my own memory and to compare with other toddler girls are looking for this holiday season, I’ve compiled her Top 10 Most Wanted Toys. Will she get them all? Maybe, depends on how naughty she is between now and Christmas morning.

Kaydence loves her Dora and this cute little version of her dances on her toes. We have yet to buy her any Dora toys but this one seems to top her Christmas list. Dora is also on the top of my list for good role models! As a mom, I’m just hoping this doll doesn’t eat up batteries quickly like some the other toys in her category.

Our toddler is completely obsessed with Train’s right now and the thing about Mickey’s Choo Choo that puts him ahead of Thomas the Train is his magical track. She gets completely mesmerized just watching him pick the tracks up and move them along.

Turning two brought out an entirely new imaginative side to our toddler. Her obsession with dolls and pretend play is something that I love and probably will buy this one for her. Every little girl needs her first doll house. As a mom, I really like that it’s a very basic doll house with wide open space and no need for batteries.

This will also happen to be the year Kaydee gets her first tea set. I can picture it now, my husband on the floor with her little girl, pouring pretend tea with his first daughter, it almost makes me want to cry just thinking about it.

Now that we have a new Disney Princess on the scene, our toddler is all over it. All we hear is “princess tawna” left and right. We will most definitely be putting her in the stocking this year as she’s the first princess to promote interracial relationships like our own!

So tell me mommies, what toys are on your toddler’s hot list this year?

My daughter is 2 1/2 and I just don’t know what to get her – she gets bored so easily. I am going to get her a sit n spin, and I think she will love it – other than that, who knows. Thanks for the suggestions – I think she would really love the 1st 3, though she is not much into dolls…so I don’t know about the Dora doll, but she does love Dora. Anyway, thanks! :-)

    Cat,

I’m glad to see you included Green Toys; a way cool company. We still have quite a few plastic toys around our house, but have been moving more towards natural/recycled/repurposed, etc. play toys. It’s amzing how many options are available.

I would like to see a lot more green toys especially ones from the Green Toys brand on shelves. This is actually the tea set we meant to buy last year but decided to hold off on until she was a bit older.

I have to say that sit and spins are huge hits. My girls loved them.

OMG my daycare kiddos want that Mickey Mouse train so bad. They stop whatever they are doing and watch that commercial. My kiddo “SYD” wants everything that is for a girl. She is constantly saying “I want that!” or “I’m getting that for Christmas!” Won’t she be surprised when Christmas comes and she does not get every toy on TV? lol

My 18-month-old daughter loves the Zhu-Zhu pets. I guess they’re not necessarily “toddler toys” but it’s so cute watching her with them. She thinks they’re real! And if you have a small area of linoleum or hardwood floor, the pets can zoom around there – I don’t have all the tubes and habitrail because we had no room, but it’s better without it anyway. :-)

Mickey Mouse train is a hot one around here too Hee heee. NO doll stuff though Hubby won’t allow the boys to play with those. Lol

Those are all great suggestions. My little one is very active so I wanted to get her something that would be physical and education and V-Tech has a new bouncing turtle that fit the bill. I hope that she love it. She won’t be two until Feb. and we considered a doll house but she tends to use all of her toys as step stools and then Daddy puts them in the basement so I think it will have to wait for another day.

The biggest gift we got for our 2 year old daughter is a train table. She is so obsessed with them when we go to Toys R US or the bookstore and I know she’ll love this. We also got her a double sided easel and various other things.

The three teenage girls want music and books. The seven year old daughter is into art and crafts. The four year old daughter is into princesses, mermaids and fairies. The three year old son is onto fire engines, trucks, buses, trains and anything automotive-related. Thankfully, the baby (one at the end of this month) will be happy with anything.
