Not because he rubbed my feet in baby oil.
Not because he did the laundry.
Not because he changed the cat litter.
Not because he cleaned the kitchen.
But because he wore this to bed…

It’s scary looking. I know. Definately a mood killer. But for the first night in months he got his CPAP fixed and I may actually get a wink of sleep without kicking or nudging him. A few months ago my husband was diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea. This is something I had known was his problem for years but it took him that long to actually have a sleep study done and get hooked up with the CPAP. It’s been a fight getting him to wear it and actually keep it on all night, eventually him giving up and tossing it in a drawer. Unless you live with a snorer you have no idea how hard it is to sleep next to the noise, many nights resulting in one of us being kicked to the living room couch so we could both sleep. But the issue goes beyond neither of us getting good sleep. Sleep apnea is a serious medical condition that should not be left untreated. I want to share some facts with you, please do take the time to read them if you think your husband may have this problem.
Signs of Sleep Apnea:
- Frequent silences between snoring or gasping for air
- Loud snoring
- Frequent awakenings to catch breath
- Daytime sleepiness or feeling like you are never rested after a full night of sleep
Sleep apnea and loud snoring are NOT the same thing. Many people snore, but it’s the periods of lack of breathing that go from being just annoying to a dangerous medical condition.
If you think your partner may have sleep apnea but he is unwilling to seek treatment, please share these statistics with him. A little discomfort at night is not worth your life.
- high blood pressure
- cardiovascular disease
- weight gain
- impotency
- motor vehicle crashes
- job impairment
- sudden cardiac death

i have never heard of this before, my husband sometimes snores so i think hes okay.
thanks for sharing the info. I hope you and your hubby can get better nights rest now!
It can be serious and I am glad that you guys are taking care of it! Hopefully you both will be sleeping well soon, well except for the new baby coming!!!
My husband snores only if he sleeps on his back so I often have to tell him to roll over, but he prefers sleeping on his back so some nights it’s a battle.
That does look scary, but the alternative possibilities are scarier!
YAY! Cat’s gonna get some…sleep that is! lol Everytime you put in CPAP I read it ‘crap’! lol
My mom has to wear one of those too. She had a sleep test done and the doc said that she stopped breathing long enough during the night so that her body was shutting down and then at the last couple minutes she would gasp for air. Scary! She also has high blood pressure!
Hope it was a restful night for both of you!
My Dad has had one of those for years. It’s really helped him.
I’m starting to wonder about my husband’s snoring. He has been snoring and awakening more.
This is very interesting, thanks for the info!
That is a little scary, but aas long as it helps the BOTH of you sleep its worth it.
I have obstructive sleep apnea and I have used flex c-pap for over a year now. How I survived without it I will never know. It had been so long since I had a decent nights sleep and woke feeling refreshed I had pretty much given up on it even being an option anymore. Once I started with C-Pap and realized how much better and how much more rested I was I promised to never be without it. I take my machine with me when I travel for fun or for work. My last business trip I made the mistake of packing my machine in my checked baggage on my way home and I got home about 22 hours before my luggage arrived. That was 22+ hours without sleep because sleep just didn’t happen without it.
I have been telling my husband for the longest time that he has sleep apnea. He blows it off, but I am seriously concerned. Now, after reading this, I am even more concerned. I will be talking to him about this as soon as he gets home in the morning.
My husband has severe obstructive sleep apnea as well. It’s horrible. But he refuses to use his CPAP..after all the $$$ we had to pay..he still won’t use it. GRRR. But now that the baby will be here in four weeks. he wants to be around fora while..and thus… I got him a new mask that’s supposed to be more comfortable. so we shall see.
Sleep apnea also can cause heart failure..YIKES
My kids call that Poppie’s elephant face. My dad had one until he had his nose fixed (apparently he broke it at some point in his life and didn’t know it?) and some other head surgery. I keep waking up to listen to Beloved to monitor him for apnea but he’s just a rowdy sleeper.
My mom stopped breathing 46 x’s during that test, she too wears one now. Thank GOd that they do research into cpap and those who snore can now get the restful sleep they so deserve, and the rest of us too.
Poor Jon!!!
Well, no worries about the mood killer part! You will have 2 under 2 Cat! Trust me… that’s enough of a mood killer for me personally!
Wow, sllep apnea is scary…

Does he know you posted this picture?
I have a cpap machine and I LOVE it. In fact, when I’m watching tv in bed (I know that is a no no) I wear it, same if I’m reading. There is a different mask that is what made all the difference in the world to me. I couldn’t do the over the nose or nose/mouth masks. I can’t think of the name but I can check if you want. You can email me if you are interested. This thing is so cool because I sleep face down in my pillow and I can breathe. I hated the machine before but now I can’t live without it. We went camping and I had to be without it and my throat hurt from snoring. Anyway, good for him!
