It’s the truth. I just don’t have a girly bone in my body and find myself completely clueless when it comes to being a mom to girls. With my son, it’s easy as pie, I grab the clippers, buzz off the hair, line up the back and he’s good to go.
My curly, fluffy headed daughter is an entirely different story. One that luckily ended well yesterday.
You see, she’s a girl. Not just any girl but the kind that wants her piggies painted, pretty dresses, lipstick (yes, she’s asking for it at 2 ugh) and her hair made all purdy. She should have asked her dad.
You know what that is don’t you? It’s okay, go ahead and laugh, in fact, laugh enough for both of us because all I was doing at the time was panicking. Big time! Little Miss Kaydence asked her mommy to brush her hair. What mommy didn’t know was that a round brush and curly hair don’t mix well. Alright, no more laughing! It took me nearly 20 minutes to pull each strand out in small chunks to avoid breaking her hair.

Feel free to leave me some “curly hair for dummies” tips, I could sure use them.

I’m a preschool teacher and no good at doing hair–not a good combination. I can certainly relate.
Oy vey! I keep my curls short.
Cat,
This is just too funny… I also have curly hair and have done this with a brush to myself. I, too, love her facial expression. It’s just a good thing that Emma doesn’t HAVE any hair! Sorry, I couldn’t resist.
I have learned not to use a brush in my hair, I pretty much use my fingers. I do use a large comb that looks like fingers only when it is wet to comb through leave-in conditioner and anti-frizz gel. I don’t even use shampoo, I only wash my hair with water, and occasionally baking soda & lemon juice. But I do use a conditioner made for curly hair (Frizz-Ease is a good one), and I don’t do it every day.
All I can say is good luck, and keep away from brushes…
OUCH Poor Baby Girl. I know this scene oh to well. My daughter still manages to get her hair caught in MY brush. YES I like the round ones too
OMG…haha! That brought back bad memories to when I was in middle school trying to blow dry my bangs to stand up (80s hair) with a round brush and the same thing happened to me. Poor thing.
LOL – that is cute! I hate round brushes, when I was young I always got them stuck in my hair…haven’t owned one since. And wanna know something else, I love being a mom to girls – love painting nails, doing hair, getting them dressed up, the works…but it has not been a great journey lately, my almost 3 YO has cut her hair, not once but twice in the last few weeks – no more long pretty hair to braid or put in different styles…all gone. But since you are not the “girly” type your pretty little girl is probably going to stay that beautiful forever and have you keep doing all the girly stuff! Good luck!!!
A pick works good with curly hair… it’s easy on it and helps no tangle or break it. Use a good conditioner when you wash it and then get a good leave in conditioner and gently comb with the pick while wet then scrunch a bit with your fingers.
This post is too funny, I can’t stop laughing. My mom really needs to read this, it’s such a deja vu.
