This year all 4 of my kids will be in school. It is very difficult for me to part with my youngest, Lukey, who is only 4. I am scared for him to ride the bus. Lukey, 4, will be in UPK .. Andrea, 6, will be in 1st grade .. Jakey, 11, will be in 5th grade .. and Bobby, almost 16!, will be in 10th grade. They are growing up too fast. We are blessed to have seatbelts on our buses here, but getting the kids to use them has been a challenge. I have talks with my children often about the bus and safety. We have had problems with some poor behaved kids bothering my kids on the bus. My daughter keeps standing up on the bus
and she is in trouble when she gets home.

My little ones will be in 2nd and 4th grades, but I don’t need to teach them school bus safety because they are homeschooled. However, on the occasion when they ride in a school-bus-type vehicle, I remind them to not stand up and to not make too much noise so that the driver doesn’t get distracted.

My son is only in preschool and does not yet ride a daily bus to/from school, but they occasionally take a bus for field trips and he loves it. Mainly we have talked about the importance of staying in your seat…

Fireflies at Midnight looks like a lovely book, and it would be a hit with my son as he is fascinated by fireflies this summer.

I’ve taught 5th grade and by then they mostly know about bus safety, but they need to keep learning about bus etiquette. My son will probably be doing pre-school this year and he loves buses so I figure you can never start too early.

My daughter will be starting second grade this year, and she is excited! She goes to a before and after school program, so does not get much opportunity to ride the bus during the school year, however the program uses the bus daily right now during summer camp. She likes using the bus, but I also have told her that it is important that the driver pay attention to the road and that she needs to be sitting down while the bus is moving so she won’t get hurt. thanks for the chance to win, this looks like a cute book!

OMG , I love you Cat….well, because, you always respond to my comments with emails( I literally don’t know how you do it) ,but it really helps me feel connected with other moms. I live out in the country miles away from my family and friends, so it gets lonely. Also this contest is perfect for me since my 6 year old will be entering first grade, and I have a three year old starting pre school. They would loooove this! I also teach my kids safety on the bus and around ALL vehicles, by looking both ways and listening before going into the street.
My grandson will be entering Pre-K. He loves school buses and spots them easily while we are driving around town. I got him a toy school bus and showed him how to walk around a school bus. Plus, we have talked about how the people on the bus should act.

Christine

My son will be going to preschool this year and we will sing the Stop, Look and Listen song that I learned in preschool, each morning before we head out the door
I’m sure you all remember it…. Stop, look and listen before you cross the street. Use your eyes. Use your ears. Then use your feet!
) I figure it must be effective because I have never forgotten it in all of 37 years lol!

We have a whole lesson on bus safety with my students the first week of school. Stay in your seats, keep your voices down, keep your hands and feet out of the aisle, etc.
Another Marilyn Singer book I’d like is Fireflies at Midnight.
I’m an e-mail subscriber!
My twins are starting pre-school in September. They have not been on a school bus yet, but my first rule would be that they stay seated and listen to the bus driver.
A Marilyn Singer book my kids would like is 9 oclock Lullaby because they llike to read books about going to sleep.

I have three kids – two in school and one starting next year. I always make sure that they are reminded to stay in their seats at all times and wait for the bus to stop before getting up.
My oldest will be starting kindergarten this year. We live close to the school so we will be walking, I never even thought to teach about school bus safety. Thanks for the reminder!
My son starts kindergarten this year, and I’m sad to see him go! We’ll be teaching him safety with a practice run on the bus, playing some games about safety, and just reminding him over the next month.
Monster Museum looks like a great book too!
