Mom Tested

Anyone that knows me at all knows that I’m a coffee loving mama. I’m also a busy mom, which means I have no time in the morning to find a filter, measure the coffee grounds, fill the reservoir, wait, wait, and wait some more for the pot to fill. With two children at home, time is of the essence in the morning for me to get that shot of caffeine and comfort before the diaper changing and breakfast fixing begins. The inconvenience of a traditional coffee maker led me in search of a brewing system that would not only save me time but allow me to have a single cup of coffee without worrying about wasted coffee hanging out in the pot all day long. That is when I found the Keurig Single-cup Brewing System.

kcupsI have to admit, having a new kitchen gadget is always a little intimidating at first. I need simplicity when I’m heading into the kitchen with my eyes half shut and brain barely functioning. I’m happy to report, the Keurig Platinum Brewing System is so easy to use. The most difficult task I have is deciding on which K-Cup flavor is going to satisfy my morning coffee craving. If you’re a cup a day person like myself, the large 60 oz water reservoir that holds up to 10 cups of coffee will last you a little over a week before needing to be refilled. Getting that cup of coffee works in 4 easy steps:

  1. Flip the switch to ON
  2. Pop in a K-Cup
  3. Place your favorite mug on the drip tray
  4. Press Brew

Mom Approved

After using the Keurig Brewing System for almost a month now, I have to say my favorite feature is the cup size selecter. The blue lit LCD screen offers a menu to adjust your cup size brew settings in 5 increments from a 5.25oz small cup to a 11.25oz travel mug. There’s even a smaller 3.25oz iced coffee setting. The LCD even displays small graphics for each cup size. For someone like me this takes the guess work out of figuring out how many ounces my mug of choice will hold.

More note worthy features I fell in love with:

Temperature Control – In the settings you are able to adjust your water temperature from 187 to 192 degrees F. I found this to be very helpful because when I have ten minutes to enjoy that cup of coffee, I don’t want to spend five of them waiting for it to cool down enough to drink. Then there are those times when I need that warm pick me up and prefer the higher temperature setting.

K-Cups – Individually sealed and measured portion cups of coffee grounds make the process of brewing my morning coffee mess free. Plus with hundreds of coffee varieties, teas, and even hot cocoa flavors I’m able to enjoy a different flavor every day. The individual serving sizes are especially important in our house because my husband and I have very different tastes when it comes to coffee. With the ability to brew a single cup, I can have my Gloria Jeans Cappuccino flavored coffee and he can enjoy his Extra Bold Green Mountain coffee without having an entire pot of leftover coffee.

Mom Improvements

It’s almost embarrassing to admit, but twice now I’ve forgotten to put my coffee cup on the drip tray before pressing the brew button which leads to half of my coffee pouring into the drip tray before I can swoop in with my mug. I would love to see this brewing system feature sensor technology that won’t allow the coffee to be dispensed without a mug in place.

I’ve been looking at these for my Grandma…it would be perfect for her!

You are not the only goofball who has forgotten to put their mug underneath…the first time I caught it before it started, the second time I lost some in the drip tray and had to drink it out of the tray. Ok, I didn’t actually drink it out of the tray….

BTW I love the new little icon flowers next to your paragraphs in your reviews.

We also have that my k-cup thing. It’s messy but it is VERY nice for DH cause he only likes one brand of coffee and they don’t make it in k-cups.

Great review, I used to have a Senseo but it died, this is like the tricked out fancy and better quality version of a Senseo and I love them, to bad i have to go down the block to my neighbors to use it! She has one and we can sit there all day making individual cups of coffee instead of having a pot sit there and get cold, hot just when you need it!!

nice Vlog :) Your kitchen looks EXACTLY like my grandma’s. Same microwave and oven. My hubby wants a Keurig.

    Cat,

I’m not a coffee drinker (my husband is), but it just looks like such a cool machine to have. Would it do well brewing tea in the little cup where you can add your drink of choice?

      Cat says:

Absolutely, I’ve been making hot tea before bed. I’m not sure if it’s recommended or not but I also put a slice of fresh ginger root in the My K-Cup with the tea grounds so the flavor is brewed with it.
