Kodak ESP 9 AIO Printer Review

This time of year budget priced printers are just about every where you look thanks to so many holiday sales. But what most don’t realize is the sale price you pay may easily be lost to the price of ink you’ll pay year round. This is why my recommendation goes to the new line of Kodak printers that focus on bringing you affordable, quality printers with ink you can afford!

Photo Prints and Scanning at Home

As someone that often finds it difficult and expensive to go to the local drugstore for printing photographs with three children, I find that it is necessary to use a printer at home for such tasks. The Kodak ESP 9 makes it very easy to print standard 4 x 6 inch and 5 x 7 inch photographs with the dedicated photo paper tray. Printing photos has been as simple as loading the photo in the provided Kodak Home software and pressing the print button. You can  pre-load the printer with up to 40 sheets  in the paper tray and you are ready to go.

This past week we found ourselves with lots of pre-holiday photos to print and to show you the capabilities of the Kodak ESP 9 check out our digital photograph through the print and scan tasks.

Unfortunately, my camera didn’t quite pick up the true quality of the printed photograph. In hand, the photo has much more vibrant coloring. The scanner on the other hand didn’t perform as well as I’d hoped. As you can see in photo 3, there’s a slight pink tone to her skin and the greens have been washed out a bit.

Of course, the best printer in the world is useless if you can’t afford the ink to use with it. And that is exactly why the Kodak ESP 9 gets my seal of approval.

Save $110 Tour – Ink Prices you can Afford!

According to Kodak Print and Prosper

When buying a printer it’s easy to be seduced by low prices and cheap bundles. But, too often people end up paying more for ink than they do the printer. Switch to Kodak and you can print more and pay less. And unlike other inks, Kodak ink is pigment based, so it will last a lifetime. Print, copy, scan and save on average $110 per year* based on 4 pages per day.

Saving money on ink is something that is very important to me. We do quite a bit of printing, homework projects for my son, coloring pages for my daughter, work documents for my husband, and of course lots of photos for the family album. Looking at the prices, buying Kodak ink for the ESP 9 printer saves me $17.92 every time I replace cartridges. For a one income family, that’s quite a bit of money considering we typically buy refills every 3 months.

Ink cartridges for the Kodak ESP 9 printer are very affordable while maintaining a great print quality. At the Kodak online store, the combo black/color cartridges are only $24.98, or individually, $19.99 and $14.99. Compared to my old Dell printer cartridge combo pack costing almost double at $42.90

Things we Do like about the Kodak ESP 9

Photo Print Quality. Compared to the previous 5 AIO printers I’ve owned, non Kodak brand, this one has had the best overall print quality for photographs.

Functionality. Between the touch screen, dedicated paper tray, ability to print, scan and fax from home, I would say the ESP 9 is top notch in covering all of your home office needs.

Packaging. This printer was by far the most well packaged product I’ve ever received. While the exterior box was a little damaged from handling, every base inside was covered securely with tight packing for even the smallest of parts to make sure the printer arrived safely.

Things we Do Not like about the Kodak ESP 9

Noise. Between turning the printer on and actually printing documents, it makes quite a bit of noise. Enough to wake a napping child one room away.

Touch Screen Sensitivity. Not something I would typically complain about given that having a touch screen is quite handy, but the overall sensitivity makes it easy to accidentally press functions you hadn’t meant to.

Buy It

Kodak has entire line of printers that offer low cost ink including the Kodak ESP-3250 priced at $129.99, the Kodak ESP-5250 priced at $159.99, the Kodak ESP 7 priced at $199.99 and the Kodak ESP 9 priced at $299.99, all available with accessories and ink cartridges at Kodak Online Store.

Thanks for the review. It looks like a solid unit overall.

I’ve heard so much about how much you’ll save in ink with this printer. Great review :)

I have the ESP 7 and love love love the duplexer and the scanner on it!

Great review! Those are truly affordable. Are the ink cartridges translucent, so that you can see how much ink you have left?

I use a canon i9900 which I absolutely LOVE and I get my canon ink cartridges off amazon. I can usually find a good deal for about $8.50 per cartridge. But my printer is almost 6 years old. It’s still a workhorse, but I’ve often thought of what I’d replace it with. If Kodak made a wide format printer (I need to be able to print upwards of 12×12 borderless) with translucent ink cartirdges, I’d be really interested. Kodak has always been synonymous with good quality, in my opinion.

My first ever digital camera was a Kodak, but I have never tried a Kodak printer. I love the control panel. After having a printer with the viewer and control panel, I don’t think I could go back! That is an awesome price on the ink. I spend that for just one black or color cartridge, not the combo. That alone peaks my interest enough to want to try this printer. Thanks for the detailed review!

I’m personally an HP girl LOL I have all kinds of printers and scanners though… I’ve got a Dell Photo AIO 942 all in one, an HP PSC 1315v all in one, an HP deskjet d4360 printer, and a Canon n670u scanner… My Dell AIO {and by the way typically I hate Dell but this printer was a gift and I’ve not had any problems with it thus far} doesn’t have a touch panel so I would LOOOVE that and it also doesn’t have a fax – it’s a copy/scanner/printer… I would love to have the Kodak w/ the fax! That’s a great price too… :) Thanks for sharing!

Wow, you get around a lot don’t you? LOL Only kidding. I’ve owned 4 Epson’s and a Dell, this is by far the superior printer to those that I’ve owned.

And the Fax is definitely nice, especially when I have to send documents to companies.

We definitely need a new printer and I have never owned one that printed quality photo prints as well. I think it would be so convenient. We’ll definitely have to consider getting an all in one with photo printing ability.

This may be a dumb question, but do you know if it’s compatible / easy to use with non-Kodak cameras?

Thanks for the review- you’re right, ink costs always get us in the end. It’s so bad that my husband and I often just get a new printer instead of replacing the ink. It’s sometimes cheaper (and terrible for the environment, I realize!)
