Every once in awhile I find something interesting going on in my hometown of Springfield, IL – whether it be a local event, local flavor or a local view. Each week I’ll bringing a piece of my life to the online world in a series called Let’s Get Local. I encourage anyone and everyone to join in and share a little bit of their own local flair to introduce us to people and places we may never visit.
Some strange things happen when you are a stay at home mom that doesn’t leave the house frequently, or even step outside at all. For me, I’m a recluse with a lot of things to get done. Occasionally I forget to go outside….say for 5 days in a row. Depriving myself of sunlight and fresh air can do some pretty crazy things to you…like a Blackberry drive by.
Out of the house I didn’t know what to do with myself as I came to each stop light and the only logical thing that popped into my head was to grab the crackberry and test out its camera feature…thus…the local view of my town courtesy of my Blackberry.
All I can say is he’s a strange bird. We were out driving and I asked for a photo so his picture would come up when he called me and this is what I got. Gorgeous huh?

This is the first sign of Fall, one tiny little puff of yellow on a gorgeous tree. As much as I love Fall, I’m sad to leave the warmer days behind.

The rainbow was actually from a few weeks ago but it was just stunning and sadly this little old camera phone doesn’t quite capture it. Silly little me still dreams of seeing the end of the rainbow, so I had hubby chase it down until it faded away.

The same road I’ve driven down a gazillion times, corn, corn and more corn.

What 3 kids and a stressed out daddy look like after leaving the grocery store.

Click it or Ticket my friends! I swear if I hear one more person complain about getting a ticket from “the cop” or asking how to get out of one my head is going to explode. Quit being a whiner, you broke the law and now you have to pay for it, put your seat belt on, stop speeding and get over it.

Cat,
I’m enjoying your local view. I used to see strawberries on my long country road drive home. Now, we see lots of corn and of all things, soybeans. I considered sneaking out one night and picking up a few. Could it be the extremely long country roads that keep you indoors? I feel like I need to pack a lunch everytime we leave the house.
Actually, your rainbow picture came out quite well. I also have Blackberry and my husband is still trying to get me to learn all of the cool things I can do w/it. I just learned how to text and haven’t stopped yet.
oh the fields remind me of home. When I lived in central part of state farms was it when we moved down here 20+ years ago it was all coal mines. My friends up north could not understand about coal mines and you can surely tell the diversity of the state
Great pictures…
Your local views are awesome….I love corn!
Be careful, Blackberrys are neat communication tools, but you can get carried away with texting. My ex MBFF and I would text throughout the day and into the night (quite addicting).
It looks so much like this side of IL
If we ever visit one another it would feel like home LOL
Love the picture of your Hubby when he calls you
Great SMile on Dh Almost reminded me of the “Hears Johhny” look Lol

Corn corn corn do you have those little stands on corners out there that sell them?
Those are all fun!

It’s something that everyone can do in their hometowns.
That rainbow pic is so pretty! Love all the pics….especially Jon’s! lol Hope you have a great weekend. Get outside more woman! lol
What a great idea! Everyone knows about Disney in the area where I live, so maybe I should take some photos of the OTHER areas that most people don’t get to see…. I think I just might do that.
I, of course will give credit where credit is due…
great pics! thanks for sharing. i love them all.
I love the rainbow and I too live in a area that you drive by fields and fields of corn. And soybeans and bearded wheat.
Suprising how many of us drive the same roads every day and never see the beauty it affords us. I love your corn field photo here and the one of the corn maze you put with the Exelim giveaway – they made me think about all the beautiful sights we have around here, and I’m going to take some local shots myself to document my local beauty. Thanks for the idea.
