Mom Blog Guide: Viddler for Vlogging

In case you haven’t noticed, I prefer to say “veelog” but since it’s not common terminology and to appease those who hate my phrasing I added vlogging to the title. So what is vlogging? Basically, you get out your video camera and share what you normally would on a blog post via the video. If you’re camera shy like I am, this can be tough to work up the courage for. But I finally took the plunge and discovered two great products and services along the way.

So what do you need to get started? A video camera! Technology sure has changed and I stepped into the world of the Flip Mino. I actually plunged a little deeper and opted for the Flip Mino HD and have to say I’m seriously in love with it! The Flip is a pocket size video recorder that looks much like an ipod and is far less complicated. It’s as simple as hit the on button, point, and click record. But there’s a lot more packed into this little gadget with it’s own built in editing software and USB. Anything that is cord free is a-okay in my book. If you’re looking for a custom Flip, look no further! Just shoot me an email and I can create one for you. Check out my custom flip mino!

Now that you know how to start, what about sharing your vlog? That’s where Viddler comes in. I don’t remember how I came across this site, I’m thinking it was just a google search because I was tired of the time it took youtube to upload my videos and the cruddy quality they produced.

I really like Viddler because:

  1. It’s Free
  2. They don’t brand your videos, you do!
  3. Uploading is fast
  4. Encoding usually takes less than an hour
  5. You can customize your video to match your website

Not only do I share vlog review on my own blog, but I also do product reviews at MomDot Reviews. I wanted to create custom videos to share on both websites so I just opened a second free Viddler account and created a new video style. Here’s a preview of what you can do with your vlogs.

See how the play bar on mine matches my website colors. If you venture on over to MomDot Reviews you can also see how the one on the right matches that website as well. To make things even more fun, you can claim your videos with a small logo that links right to your website. You’ll never have to worry about someone stealing your work.
