Mommy Confessions – Breakfast

mommy-confessions1-150x150As moms many of us have things that we would like to get off our chests or that we would just like to confess…sometimes they are little and sometimes they are big. So here is the place to do it! Visit Life Starring Ellie and Even to link up your mommy confessions every Friday.

This week I’m confessing…

My kids eat cookies for breakfast.

Yep, I said it. I don’t make a healthy breakfast for the kids during the week while my husband is at work. In fact, breakfast is a free for all. It could be cookies, left over pizza, scrambled eggs and hot dogs, it’s whatever I can throw on a plate quickly to fill up the tummies.

Okay, I’ll go one step further and say lunch is pretty much the same way. School is out and I imagine the eating habits are going to get a bit worse. I’ve got a baby on my breast, a toddler at my feet, and a pre-teen running his mouth. Can you blame me?

  1. Sounds like my breakfast! I generally grab whatever I can find to eat, but I TRY to make the kids something like breakfast food for the kids…cereal is a favorite easy thing to “make”. It drives me BONKERS when hubby criticized me saying that cereal isn’t a healthy breakfast and that the kids should have a balanced meal…fruit, dairy, protein, blah blah blah. If he wants to make it before he goes to work cool…if not cereal or toast with honey is it.

    Thanks for Confessing

We eat poptarts every morning… I’ll make some eggs or cereal every once in awhile, but usually we just grab poptarts. I gotta check my email and stuff! Plus Lily loves poptarts while she watches her morning cartoons… don’t judge :)

My son would love cookies for breakfast! Just not chocolate chip ones. He’s already informed me that he doesn’t like chocolate in any form. Luckily for Jake he gets breakfast at school and it’s usually pretty healthy/filling. If it were me it’s be whatever he grabs.

  3. I’ve allowed my kids to snack on cookies for breakfast, twice, this week. I consider that good because although I’ve had cake for breakfast (I had chocolate cake this morning), I won’t let them eat cake; do as I say, and not as I sneak and do. Then again, what’s the difference between cake and icing for breakfast and pancakes w/all the syrup?

  4. Melissa says:

    Sounds alot like my house!

  5. Miss Blondie says:

You’re better than I am…my son gets his own breakfast. And leftover pizza happens to be his favorite!

  6. Cynthiaa says:

    Just saying.

I thought you were DONE changing the blog look! haha.

  7. Brandi says:

We do dry cereal ALOT! The kids love it though. And the boys would eat peanut butter 24/7 if we would let them.

  8. Elizabeth says:

Hahahaha!! I love it. My husband will eat whatever for breakfast, too.

  9. Stefanie says:

I’m the opposite…well most of the time! I’m a stickler for eating a good breakfast and decent lunch. Dinner is usually pretty lazy though! But with 3 kids…believe me I understand! :)

  10. Sarah says:

Can’t blame you a bit and I’ve been doing the same thing quite frequently. No teenager here, but with a three year old and two 9 month olds, I consider it a success if there is breakfast served at all.

  11. Ric says:

Yeah I haven’t fed them cookies…but me definately they are great with coffee….xoxox

  12. Staci A says:

Toaster waffles and microwave pancakes are the only thing that save us. And when I’m out of those, just about anything goes. So I completely understand!

  13. Michelle says:

At least they have something in their bellies. It could be worse right?

  14. Karen R says:

Are Rice Krispy treats consider healthy? What about Little Debbie Oatmeal Pies? We have frozen waffles frequently, too. Also, a scrambled egg made in the microwave in a fav for Rylee.

  15. Tricia says:

LOL My Mil always said, “Fannie Mae For Breakfast is always a good choice”
I find that easy to follow! CHips are good too, or dry cereal, Hand the box and let them have at it!

  16. Rebecca says:

Ooh- I feel so much better now. My kids are 6, 9, & 11. They eat a lot of cereal too. I always make breakfast food available (frozen waffles, pancakes, cereal, toast, yogurt, oatmeal) but by golly they are old enough to make it for themselves (which is why they eat lots of cereal) They don’t like fixing it any more than I do. My daughter does scramble eggs on occasion and I do sometimes fix hot muffins- yeah me.

  17. zeemaid says:

breakfast doesn’t necessarily have to be “breakfast” foods. I’ve had a hard time wrapping my head around this and realized that supper is okay for breakfast, you CAN eat sandwiches for breakfast. What’s the difference?

As long as you make sure they get a variety of other healthy foods the rest of the day, who cares.

  18. I know the feeling. I always feel so guilty when I don’t give my kids a good healthy breakfast. I confess sometimes they eat donuts!

  19. Alexia says:

I hear ya! Breakfast is always – always – dry cereal. I could really care less about trying to make it healthy because *I* don’t eat breakfast and I’ve got better things to be doing in the morning than pulling out pans and making a huge mess.

  20. Lisa says:

Im late commenting , I have been so busy. I’m the same way I feed the baby and then the rest fed for themselves. Im bad for that but then again my kids are also older.
