Here’s the scene…
It’s 2am and our 8 year old gets up running for the bathroom. I see through the crack of our door his body lurching and hand over the mouth. Not 3 seconds later, the dreadful noise of everything he ate in the past 12 hours splattering all over the bathroom.
It’s 6am, I wake up for a drink of water but with each gulp, my face winces into a shape of pure agony. I find myself regretting ever saying that this was “the best cold ever”…you know, the kind that comes and goes without too much discomfort. Just 24 hours later my throat is raw and my head is floating.
It’s 10am, and what do I hear coming from my toddler’s room…achoo achoo achoo. Multiply that by 3 and we get 9 lovely cold infested sneezes.
It’s 10:15am and my infant is crying such a hoarse little noise following by achoo cough achoo achoo. I pick her up to make sure her little fever isn’t back and notice that somehow, even through all that sneezing her tiny little nostrils are blocked by green booger caps. My fingers are too big, the nasal aspirator is nowhere to be found…time for the turkey baster.
The only one in this house that isn’t sick is the dog. Lucky her.
I call up my boss to tell him I need to take a sick day as an normal person would do. Oh wait, this is my job and I am the boss. Moms don’t get sick days, paid time off or vacation days! I guess it’s just a day of me and the girls moaning, us in the bed tweeting from my blackberry and the dog will have to fend for herself for a few hours.

Cat,
Eeeeew! Don’t you just love it? I can see all of the boogers, runny noses, etc. (great job w/detail) and I hope to keep that scene out of my house as long as possible this season. Mommys don’t get sick days unless it is filled w/us being sick too. I want to know why daddys never get sick. Afterall, the love should be shared.
I hope everyone recovers soon. Now, you’re the mommy whom everyone is looking forward to being held by.
I feel your pain. It is so hard when you are sick and then taking care of kids, yet alone sick kids. I hope you and your family feel better soon! My thoughts are with you
It is tough being mom.
Maybe you can figure out a way to get the dog to help out?
I hope the whole family feels better soon.
I hope you feel better soon. It really is the worst to be sick and home with a house full of sick kids!
This is the one time that I wish I was Dad instead of Mom…when the kids are sick and I’m sick too. Dad always gets to lay in bed while Mom has to take care of everyone else. I hope everyone feels better soon. We just got over a nasty bug.
I hope you all get better soon!
It sucks being sick when your a mom! You never get any peace, and more than likely, your also taking care of other sick ones in your house too. I feel for you hun! My daughter’s had a bad runny nose and I’ve got a sore throat, but nothing terrible yet.
What’s funny, when my husband even gets a headache he gets to go lay down and rest. How I wish I was him sometimes!
At my house, when I get sick, everyone needs somethiing extra special! They will walk past Mr. Husband, tip into my bedroom and raise my sleeping eyelid, and ask for something!
Hope you all feel better and soon! ((Hugs))
