I just stumbled upon your blog and it is beautiful. I am from the Caribbean and my husband and I are a mixed race couple. No problems with either of our parents. When I was pregnant I was so excited but honestly did not bother to wonder what my kids would look like. It’s a good thing too because I could have never anticipated the outcome. In any case I knew I would be pleased so long as they were healthy. Here in the Caribbean, as a couple, we almost never raise eyebrows. However we lived in Texas for 3 months and had 2 awful experiences one of which was very scary. The first was when we went into a crowded restaurant and having it go suddenly silent. You could have heard a pin drop as all the diners stopped eating and chatting to stare at us. The second incident happened while driving on the highway. A car started to follow us. It eventually came alongside us and the occupants shouted profanities and the N word…Was I ever happy to come home from that trip!

I love your website and this story had me cracking up. Happens to me all the time. I’m Black, my husband is from Spain and my two kids are two different colors with different hair textures. I think this is all so funny and why I write about it on my blog.

I have only being ask the question once, but children looks more like m in skin color and more often than not we are out alone so maybe thats why I don’t get too much curiosity, but when we go out as a family I think people wonder if I”m the maid…Seems this thought pattern is normal in Louisiana.

When I first saw your avat up there I just knew you were interracial, I didn’t even think twice about it or wonder about it.

I’m laughing at Catherine’s comment (or the comment to her family) – “You guys are colorful.” Wow, people will say the WEIRDEST things won’t they!? I think our culture is getting more used to “colorful” families, and that’s a beautiful thing!
