Oye… well…I’ve been hesitant to share this recipe. Not because it’s bad but because I didn’t pull it off right. I’m really irritated that as great as it looked and smelled, I wasn’t able to eat it. You see, everything was perfect until I tried to cut the meat. I kid you not, this was the toughest cut of meat I’ve ever had in my life. But…the gravy, the breading, it was all perfect! Next time I think I’ll just tweak it for country fried chicken.
What You’ll Need:
- 8 strips of bacon
- 1/4 cup Crisco vegetable shortening
- 2 thin bottom round steaks (my mistake)
For breading:
- 1 cup flour
- 4 large eggs
- 1 TBS black pepper
- 1 TSP salt
For gravy:
- 3 TBS flour
- 1 cup milk
- 1 TSP black pepper
Directions:
- In a pie pan, add breading ingredients, except the egg, and mix well. In a second pie pan, add the eggs and mix well.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, fry your bacon until crispy. Remove the bacon and add it to your green beans (or just munch it while cooking).
- Add 1/4 cup Crisco vegetable shortening to bacon grease.
- Season your meat with a pinch of salt/pepper, dip in flour, dip in egg, dip in flour again, dip in egg again, and dip in flour a third time.
- Carefully add battered meat to skillet and fry on each side 5 – 7 minutes until golden brown.
- Remove meat. In grease, whisk in flour and turn up heat to medium-high until it thickens. Add milk and seasoning. Continue to whisk until gravy thickens.
- I like to serve mine with mashed potatoes and green beans.
Maybe someone can suggest a better cut of steak to use. Let me know if you find one!
