Rigging up the Lights

The 1st thing at Christmas that’s such a pain to me…

Finding a Christmas Tree!

The 2nd thing at Christmas that’s such a pain to me…

Rigging up the Lights!

Yeah…let’s stop with that one. I know it’s not even Turkey Day yet but I’ve got a good reason for putting up the lights this early. Up here in Illinois winter is a bear and there’s no way to tell when the temperature will just take a nose dive right into the 20’s. Believe me, standing outside cursing at gutter clips and Christmas lights isn’t fun when your digits are getting frost bitten.

So this year we grew some brain cells and decided to put them up now while the weather was still bearable and just wait to turn them on until around December 1st. After the second strand of lights fell from the roof and smacked me on the forehead I remembered why we skipped doing this last year. It’s a pain! Even with the nifty gadget we picked up from Target. It’s basically an adjustable pole you attach the gutter clip to, then slip in the light wire and reach up to snap it on the gutter. Evidently our gutters weren’t happy about it and dropped the lights on us a few times.

Two days and 3600 multi-colored icicle lights later…

We only got halfway around before we ran out of lights so it’s back to Target again tomorrow to finish the house. How we’ll get them on the peak is another question. And just in case you didn’t get the whole “the first thing at Christmas that’s such a pain to me..” – it’s a song, and a very funny one! So tell me, what’s your Christmas pains?

I used to wonder why my parents would never decorate…now I understand lol. They look very pretty though! I couldn’t stand temps like that for long lol. Next post is up if you care to read. If not–well, I thank you so much for stopping by yesterday!

Uggh…I hear ya! We should have put ours out yesterday when it was semi nice out but we didn’t. lol I say ‘we’ but really I mean ME! Maybe this weekend…we’ll see. Hmm…the worst thing for me about Christmas every year is trying to find enough money to get three kids presents. It’s always super stressful, especially considering all three of them have birthdays in Jan, Feb and March!

We don’t even do outside decor anymore. Too much of a pain (The cords were always an eye sore for me too.)

The Christmas photos are my Christmas pain. Trying to get the kids to cooperate and then getting one nice shot out of about 20 is frustrating. I don’t do outside lights. I told my husband if he wants lights outside, that’s his job, but I’m not participating.
