The ladies of MomDot are at it again with a new weekly meme called Small Talk Six. Every Saturday a new topic is announced and you respond to each topic with a list of 6 words, 6 phrases, 6 photos, or 6 paragraphs, whatever your heart desires. You can check out the Small Talk Six announcement to see all of the pre-scheduled topics for 2009. Don’t forget to stop by and see this weeks responses at MomDot.
This week the topic is a little tricky. I’d like to think I’m a pretty honest person overall aside from the little white lie here and there to spare someone’s feelings.
This weeks topic is…
6 of the Worst Lies you’ve ever Told
Here we go…
1. The engagement ring – When my husband asked me to marry him and presented me with my now long gone engagment ring, he later asked me if I really liked it. I told him yes. It wasn’t true. It was actually too big for my taste and was a round stone. I really only like marquis cut diamonds and settings that are delicate.
2. Christmas Gifts – 9 times out of 10 I get Christmas presents I really don’t like or want, but I pretend to so the giver doesn’t feel bad. Unless it’s chocolate, a kitchen gadget, or computer related, I probably won’t like it. The exception to that rule is when the husband gives you a cheap toaster that burns everything that goes in it.
3. Newborns – Every time I see a newborn I comment on how cute they are for the parents, but the reality is all newborns are ugly the first week with all those wrinkles and swollen body parts. Sorry folks, they look like Yoda.
4. My First Pregnancy – When I was 17 I told my parents I was going to stay the night at a friend’s house when really I stayed overnight with a guy from work. Unfortunately, that lie was busted out when that one night resulted in my first pregnancy and I had to tell my parents about how it happened. Even worse, it ended in miscarriage at 26 weeks. I guess Karma is real people!
Alright, I’m gonna have to cut it off there because I’ve been thinking on this one for an hour and can’t come up with any more. I’ll edit them in if I do.

I can definitely relate to the Christmas presents/Birthday presents that I don’t like. Some presents just don’t represent who I am at all.
I am not sure I could come up with six!
I can totally relate about the jewelry. I love it when my husband surprises me with stuff, but he has a habit of picking out jewelry thatlooks like it was made for a 12 year old.
I totally have done the xmas miss one also ! How can you not.
Great list! I know what you mean about the gifts. Gifts are so hard for me, too.
I agree with the newborn thing. I’ve even come to realize and admit that my kiddos were pretty funny looking when they were newborns.
I think we’re all guilty of #2. #4 is really not fun for you to have to have dealt with. Sorry!
I do the same thing with gifts. ‘Oh I love it!’ When I’m really thinking, ‘I hope they have a gift receipt!’ lol
What is it with men and large diamonds? I guess they have it stuck in their heads that bigger is better. ;P
I hear you on the Christmas gifts. I often get ones I am not fond of but I say ‘So cool. I love it”.
Sorry about #4.
I;m with you on the newborns. Except mine of course, they were beautiful!
I think everyone has been guilty of #3 at least once, but every parent wants to hear how cute their kid is!
Oh I didn’t think about the Christmas gifts… you are soo right on that one!! Sorry about #4 nobody should have to go through that.
