Summer Fun and Safety

A few weeks ago we had a major hot spell. We’re talking temperatures in the mid 90′s and a heat index over 100 degrees. I’m sure I mentioned before that we can’t have a pool because of a village ordinance that doesn’t allow them unless you have a fence. I’m a little bitter about this because of two reasons:

  1. fencing in our backyard would cost around $4200
  2. safety pool covers are available

I’m not an irresponsible parent, I certainly understand the dangers of unattended pools and children. The fact is, there are other ways to keep a pool safe without spending a fortune on a fence. Safety pool covers are one option and I actually saw on our neighbors above ground pool just last week. For above ground pools, they are basically a large, heavy duty net that prevents children from entering the pool water and unlike traditional sheet covers, don’t pose the risk of suffocating and drowning a child.

So what were we to do? We ran straight to Target and for under $40 found this really cool Banzai Baby Sprinkles Pool. It’s like a mini water park with an inflatable slide, palm tree and sunshade. It’s only like an inch deep and can be put away when we’re done, I figured our neighbors wouldn’t complain about it. So far, no problems…except I left it out one night and it killed the grass. Oops.

Regardless, Kaydee has been having a blast in it and I even hop there with her to cool off (I edited that part out because you might mistake me for that whale slide)

That is too cute…you are brave to venture outside..we tend to stay in when it’s that hot, but we also have tons of mosquitoes.

Too cute. And btw…no one could mistake you for the whale slide! You are much cuter! LOL We got a little pool from Wally-World for like $20. Didn’t go blow-up cuz I know my hooligans would deflate it in 2 seconds flat.

She is so cute, love how she runs around all over :) that pool is cute too. We have a big family above the ground from Walmart, and because of the fence (well we’re not required to have it fenced) but our neighbors have two small kiddos (5 and 1) so we keep it in a part or our deck that is completely fenced.
It really helps with this heat LOL and our daughter loves it!

That looks fun! Sorry the about the rules where you live. I live in Texas and we’ve been having much hotter temperatures than the last few years. It sucks!

We have that exact same sprinkler pool. I loved it because while my oldest loves the water and could literally dump buckets over her head, my younger two are more cautious and the tame sprinkler pool suits them just fine.

Aw, such a big little girl picking up her toys and playing!! Man, that’s like a little paradise to a two year old! Lol

Looks like Kaydee is having a ball with her pool. We have ordinances like that in our town too. Your pool will make her happy though! Makes me wish I could jump in!

So cute. My LO loves the water too. We went to a park with a fun fountain and she had so much fun.
