Tony Hawk Ride for Wii Review

New from Activision Games…Tony Hawk RIDE for Wii, XBox 360 and PS3.

Tony Hawk: RIDE is THE new way to play. It gives a whole new meaning to game night by allowing the entire family to challenge one another to competitions that are as fun to watch as they are to play,” said Rob Kostich, head of marketing, licensed products, Activision Publishing, Inc. “It’s the perfect activity for the entire family this holiday season…and anytime of the year. – Tony Hawk, legendary pro skater

Honestly, I’ve never before seen such a game that was as physically involved as Tony Hawk Ride and we love it!

Cold weather has forced our son to pack up his skateboard for the next few months and this game has been there to feed his “Ollie” (a skateboard trick for those that don’t  know) addiction from the comfort of our living room. I don’t have to worry about skid marks on my floor (or broken bones) and he can keep practicing his moves while burning some energy.

The worst part of Tony Hawk Ride is the whole 2 minutes I had to watch my son wriggle with excitement during the initial skateboard calibration. Luckily, this only has to be done when new batteries are installed.

Speaking of calibration, the initial set up process was very easy. Each Tony Hawk Ride game comes with everything you need to starting gaming almost immediately. The box includes:

  • 1 Game Disc and Instructions
  • 1 Skateboard
  • 4 strips of Velcro for non-carpeted surfaces
  • 4 AA batteries
  • 1 sensor block

Within minutes the game was ready to go and with no instruction, my son was skateboarding like a pro semi-pro. Just like with any other skateboard, this game requires you to master balance and the freedom to express your own skateboarding technique.Check out how into the game my son got!

We tried the skateboard on our wood flooring with the Velcro and the rug carpet without the Velcro and found he was able to maneuver most easily on the rug. Either way you go, I would bet your kids (and adults) will have a lot of fun with this one. I even took a leap and tried out the RIDE for myself while my son got 20 minutes of pure laughter at my inability to skateboard and lack of skill.

But don’t just take my word for it, check out what Tony Hawk has to say about RIDE in this video clip and watch the Tony Hawk RIDE Bloggers Retreat footage to see some reactions from kids that have tried the game. My son would go ga ga over this. It’s on his Christmas wish list-but I’m not sure we’ll be able to swing it-so I’m thinking maybe for his birthday in March. He recently told me he wanted to make a vlog asking Tony Hawk and a few other guys like Pedro Rodriguez to teach him how to skateboard (he’s five).

      Cat says:

Well, I have to respectfully disagree with you and the other reviewers. As you can see from the video, my son (who is 8 by the way) absolutely loves the game. He’s not an adult, serious gamer, but a child that enjoys the ability to skateboard in our home in a safe environment.

From a parental perspective, I enjoy it as much as he does. There’s no violence and he’s getting physical activity.

It is true that major sites have been slamming this game with bad reviews. However for a child this game is absolutely brilliant. For a hardcore gamer if may be rubbish but for a child this is a brilliant game. After all different people want different things in games. Children being one of them.
