What are Zhu Zhu Pets?

Zhu Zhu Pets and Playsets are fun loving toy hamsters that each come with a unique set of personalities. They chatter, scatter, scoot and scurry!

To go along with the fun little hamsters is a collection of 9 play sets that each connect to create an entire hamster playhouse including a skate park u-turn, adventure ball, exercise wheel, garage with hamster mobile and more. Each play set is sold separately at select retailers like Walmart and Amazon.

The 3 Kids and Us Experience

I can say without a doubt, our kids had an absolute BLAST with the Zhu Zhu Pets. I’m not one to have a lot of live animals in my house, so the toy hamsters are the perfect alternative. They can’t squish them, lose them or forget to feed them. Instead they have been playing for hours sending them through the different play sets and this is one kind of hamster I don’t mind letting loose in the house.

Even though they are recommended for ages 4 and up, I did let my 2 year old toddler in on the fun with close supervision. She thought the hamsters were beyond hilarious and at one point even thought they were real animals.

As much as our 2 year old and 8 year loved playing with the Zhu Zhu Pets and all of their accessories, with all of the optional play sets it becomes a very large set up. For those wanting to get the complete collection, I would highly suggest having a large table or playroom dedicated for their play sets to accommodate them.

During all of the fun and excitement my children learned a very important lesson. For some odd reason, my 8 year old son thought it would funny to put a hamster on his sister’s head, that same little head that has a puff of blond curls. It was then that we took the time to go over the cautionary details of the play set. I can say without a doubt this one is quite true.

CAUTION: All motorized wheel toys have the potential for hair entanglement. To prevent entanglement, keep hair away from wheels.

Mom Improvements

The kids may have had a blast playing with the Zhu Zhu Pets but my husband and I ran into a few issues that could use some improvement.

• Putting the accessories together proved to be a difficult task. Each piece would come apart easily. The cover to the tunnels, garage, etc need more secure connections to avoid putting these pieces back together constantly.
• Hamsters often became stuck within the tunnels and needed to be given a little push more often than not to continue their travel throughout the play set.
