Every so often, a product catches my eye, not because of what it does or how much it costs, but because how it’s packaged. I’ll be the first to admit, I’ve bought many products because of the packaging alone. In this case, I was at the check out line at Super Walmart and on the top row of gum something caught my eye, the new Dentyne bottles. Not only were they in a packaging like no other on the shelf but they were covered in eye catching art work.
Coincidentally, later that same week I was contacted by a Dentyne representative to share my thoughts on this new packaging and learned more about it.
While the gum flavors are not new, the artwork is. Designed by Anthony Yankovic, an Illustrator and Graphic Designer, the new labels are covered in scenes and images you might otherwise find on skateboards and gallery paintings.
My first impression of the artwork struck me as odd, but in a good way. The designs are intricate, confusing and most of all intriguing, which by my guess is an excellent marketing tool. Aside from the design, the packaging shape is incredibly handy as well. Rather than littering up my surroundings with individually wrapped sticks of gum, these canisters hold 60 pieces of gum and fit easily into places where I would typically reach for a piece, like the cup holder of our car.

I love these designs (sort of takes me back to my youth and Peter Max). I can see one of these on my counter collecting loose change and my son would definitely put these on his desk at school.
I would keep them in my car. This will really be handy when we are on the go.

I like that his drawings don’t have a definite beginning and end or borders. They’re very layered.

LOVE these new designs! You can put these anywhere and they won’t seem obtrusive….I chew gum several times a day, and would put these right next to me on the sofa table!
I’d keep one in my car cup holder!
