La Choy Sweet & Sour Chicken

New from La Choy – Asian inspired complete meal kits

Inspired by Asian cuisine, these authentic, delicious, and easy one-skillet meals allow you to add some Asian flair to your table tonight. Currently available in 3 flavors: Asian Fried Rice, Teriyaki Chicken and Sweet & Sour Chicken – each meal comes complete with rice and sauce n vegetables, just add chicken.

I don’t know about you but finding good Asian cuisine around here is hard to come by. The one place our family loves very much is a 40 minute drive round trip. That’s a lot of distance to travel for something we could actually be making at home with a more budget friendly price tag. Retailing for around $5, each La Choy Creations Kit comes with enough to feed our family of four in each box (our youngest isn’t quite ready for table food yet). When you add in the cost of chicken and a vegetable side dish, it’s a complete meal for under $15 that can be prepared in less than 30 minutes.

Ingredients You’ll Need:

Let’s Get Cooking

Step 1 – Clean and cut chicken strips into 1 inch chunks and in a 10 in skillet, cook over a medium-high heat in oil until no longer pink.

Step 2 – Add sauce, rice and 1 1/2 cups water as directed on the box.

Step 3 – Cover and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to simmer for approximately 13 minutes.

Step 4 – Serve with your favorite Asian side dish. We chose a quick heat n serve side of frozen vegetables in an Asian sauce.

This dish turned out very nice with the sweet sauce and large bell pepper chunks. By the time dinner was over my husband was already asking what other flavors La Choy offers. Next week, we’ll be giving the Teriyaki Chicken kit a try and crossing our fingers that La Choy comes out with an Orange Chicken in the near future.

I wrote this review while participating in a blog campaign by Mom Central on behalf of La Choy and received a sample to facilitate my candid review. Mom Central sent me a gift card to thank me for taking the time to participate.

  3. This looks so good and simple… We have been eating a lot more chicken lately because of Bill’s liver disease. I am s happy to find new recipes for chicken that taste good and both the hubby and I will eat.
    Thanks for the review.

Oh good, then you’ll be happy to know I have a REALLY good recipe coming up this week, but be warned, it’s not short on calories. In fact, there’s probably so many I’m scared to count them up.

It looks quite delicious! You must be a very good cook.

I live in the L.A. area and we have no shortage of good Asian restaurants of all ethnicities and prices. Still, cooking at home is almost always the more economical choice. My concern with using a dinner kit like this one is the salt content, and whether or not it contains MSG. Often the sodium in kits like these seems to exceed that we’d add ourselves, and the dishes even taste saltier than I like. I think once the product manufacturers start lowering the amounts of sodium, fats, additives, etc., as General Mills is doing with sugar in cereals, I’ll be more than delighted to give these kits another try, as they sure beat cooking from scratch (IMHO!) or spending big bucks on eating out. Thanks for the review and the scrumptious pics!
