BUILDING THE LANES

Having an 8 year old boy in the house, it’s a given that we’ve had our fair share of cars and toy race tracks through the years. In the past, they’ve all made their way to the garbage can within weeks, sometimes days. Between flimsy construction pieces and broken parts, they just didn’t hold up the way a toy made for rowdy boys should.

This was NOT the case with the Victory Lane race track my son received for Christmas this past year. A month later and it’s holding up and just as fun as the day we opened the box.

Going through the parts list was quite easy. With simple colored track pieces and a bag of connectors we were able to build the track set up in less than 30 minutes. The connector pieces hold the track together very tightly without ever needing a tool to construct them. The only confusing part of the process was the instructions. Being on black and white paper, it was difficult to figure out which piece of track went where, but thanks to the color photo on the box, everything came together nicely.

RACING THE CARS

Of course, the best part of this particular toy is watching the kids play with the finished product not for just a single day or even a single week, but for an entire month. I’ve only had to reconnect the track once, which was my own doing after I tripped over the loops, thus pulling them apart.

Though this particular set up is rated for children 4 and up, we did allow our 2 1/2 year old daughter to race along side her big brother while being supervised. With no batteries to ever change, the kids are able to “rev up” the cars with a backwards and forwards motion and send them on their way to Victory Lane.
