Think Sloppy Joe without all of the slop! The Western Loose Meat sandwich is very similar but so much better and just as easy to make. I don’t know why I originally threw these ingredients together but I’m guessing it was a night that we had Sloppy Joe’s planned but I had forgotten to pick up the “slop” from the grocery store. These are perfect paired up with mac n cheese or steak fries!
Ingredients You’ll Need:
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 medium yellow, red or orange bell pepper
- 1 small yellow onion
- 1 TBS of Lawry’s Seasoning Salt
- 1 TBS butter
- sliced Mozzarella cheese
- hamburger buns
Let’s Get Cooking
Step 1 – Start by dicing your onion and pepper into small cubes, you’ll need about 1/4 cup of each vegetable.
Step 2 – In a large skillet over medium heat, combine ground beef, butter and diced vegetables.
Step 3 – Coat with Seasoning Salt
Step 4 – Continue cooking until the meat is browned, Strain
Step 5 – Top with sliced cheese and serve on buns.
Slopless Sloppy Joe Trick!
Unless you prefer having your sandwich meat all over the front of your shirt, the trick is to create a bun that will hold the slop. To do this, simply place the bottom portion of the bun on a cutting sheet and press the center with the bottom of a heavy glass until you create a pocket. This gives your meat a place to sit inside the bun without falling out!

love the bun trick I know what to do the next time I also love the recipe thanks for sharing

Holy WOW that looks incredible!!
And that trick with the bun is pure genius-I can’t tell you how many times most of the meat ends up on the plate and myself then in my mouth. LOL
My husband LOVES sloppy joes. I am going to have to remember the little pocket tip.
