Crock Pot Swiss Steak Recipe

It is no secret that I love cooking in the Crock Pot. Just toss in a few ingredients, pop the lid on and everything cooks while you go about your day. What I’ve realized though is I need a bigger crock pot. We love cooking large meals that can be stored as leftovers but with our current standard size slow cooker, we just can’t fit the extras in. So now I’m on the hunt for the biggest slow cooker on the market. Feel free to let me know if you’ve seen one.

This is the perfect meal for a busy weeknight where you can set out all of your ingredients (besides meat) the night before and put everything together in the morning.

By cutting thick slices of onion they stay in large pieces when serving this dish. If you cut them too thin they’ll shrivel up and be lost in the sea of tomato sauce.

See that splatter on my wall? Yep, my own stupidity. It’s a great way to remind yourself to never ever forget to put the lid back on or you’ll be scrubbing sauce off of your walls.

  2. Add the roast
  3. Cut a yellow onion into thick 1/2 inch slices and place onion on top of roast.

I have a Rival Smart Pot Crock Pot, it looks like it might be just a tad deeper than yours, but I can’t really tell. Sometimes I wish their was a bigger crock pot out there. I think I’ll look around.

  7. Lauralee Hensley says:

I think your and mine are about 7 Quart size.
Now I did a search and I found a site that has some 8.5 Quart size slow cookers/crock pots. They look deeper than ours, but about the same length. Note they have other items besides slow cookers on this page, but you can scroll down and look around and see if this helps.
    The address is as follows
    http://www.nextag.com/8-quart-slow-cooker-crock-pot/stores-html

You might look in your yellow pages or regular phone book for restuarant supply houses and see if they sell any large slow cookers or crock pots. I know our church got a coffee pot through one of them locally where we live.
Yet, maybe you can do an internet search for restuarant supply houses.

  8. Lauralee Hensley says:

Well, the largest I’ve found even looking online at restuarant supply places is an 8.5 quart.
Overstock.com has a great deal on one and it has a 4.7 rating out of 5
It’s on sale for $45.12 compared to $155.00 that stores sell normally sell it for.
    The item # is 11275408
    The internet address is
    http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Stainless-Steel-8.5-quart-Slow-Cooker/3151661/product.html

That’s if it’s still currently on sale and in stock. Never can tell with Overstock.com

  16. This looks really good. It’s hard to cook a chuck roast, but this looks like it would be really tender and flavorful.
I really love when you share slow-cooker recipes.

    Hi Cat,
I make a stove top swiss steak using eye round but still with lots of onions and canned tomatoes. I may try this one except using the eye round because it is so less fatty. As far as a new crock pot goes, I can’t help you there as I am still using a 29 year old pot. If you find a good one, please share.
