Finding Support through Pregnancy

There’s a lot of times in your life when you need support, even more so when you’re pregnant. Pregnancy can be a very long 40 weeks whether you’re a first time mom, fifth time mom, single, even married. While it’s nice to have a partner there to support you, he doesn’t truly understand your feelings as he’s never been pregnant. This is my third child and even I feel lonely sometimes, like I’m the only person pregnant and no one understands what I’m going through.

Lucky for us, we’re not alone. There are thousands of women online that are in every stage of pregnancy and want to connect just as badly as you and I do. Maybe you’ve been placed on bedrest, or you could just be sore and too tired to leave the house like me. The good news is the Internet is full of great places to find women to share your journey with. Here is a great list of places to find pregnancy support!

  • BabyCenter: Nestled into this informational center on everything baby, is the Community. There you’ll find Birth Clubs where you can talk with other pregnant women due the same month as you! You can even continue your parenting journey through the groups long after you’ve given birth.
  • CafeMom: This often overlooked resource is chalk full of support groups large and small all centered around being a mom. You can seek out a large group for babies due in 2009 or pick something a little more personal like Single Mothers to Be.
  • Pregnant Bloggers Club: If you’re a blogger like myself, you may find it more interesting to connect with other pregnant women that are also bloggers. It’s a great way to not only network with your blog, but seek support in reading about another mom-to-be’s personal journey.
  • Pregnancy.org: This all-in-one pregnancy website features articles, fetal development tools, and a panel of experts to discuss your concerns and questions with. Their bulletin board communities cover a wide range of pregnancy niche discussion.

I totally agree. Through both my pregnancies and bedrests I had a great group of ladies on my message boards who understood. I could say things to them that I couldn’t to offline friend kwim?

Great list of sources! I agree that the internet is a great resource.

Excellent list of resources, Cat. Another good one that I found toward the end of my pregnancy is http://www.whattoexpect.com. They have forums and blogs over there, and it’s been a great way to make friends with people that are going through similar things.

It is true that pregnancy is not what the media portrays it to be. I know for me it has been an extremely difficult road. The internet and connecting with other bloggers has been very helpful and a great resource.
