I’ve got the Thanksgiving Blues

Thanksgiving is just two days away and I’m feeling a little blue about it. This will be the first year in 26 years that we didn’t celebrate the day with a big turkey, all the fixin’s and my crazy family all talking over each other. It’s a good kind of crazy and I’ll miss it. My kids are going to miss it.

I’m especially sad for Emma as this is her first Thanksgiving. She’ll be missing out her cousins fighting over who gets to hold her, she’ll be missing out on my sister and I bantering, she’ll be missing out on my mom running around the kitchen looking for the hand towel that mysteriously disappeared…she’ll be missing out on her family.

Worst case scenario, we pick up some of these…

Best case scenario, I pick up one of those processed butterballs and try to put together some normal sides without making enough food to feed 20. It’s a strange problem I have – overcooking.

Despite having the Thanksgiving blues, I’m thankful for…

my mom surviving her heart attack and stent surgeries.

having my husband by my side through all of my crazy moods.

three children that are happy, healthy and blessed.

the wonderful bloggers and readers that have been here with me for the past year through all of my crazy template changes and random thoughts.

No matter who you spend Thanksgiving with or what you eat if you are thankful for what you do have it’s all good.

So sorry about your mom. I hope she is doing better. I so wish you lived closer and you could join us this year. My daughter and I could fight over who would get to hold Emma! lol

I hope that your Thanksgiving is a nice quiet one filled with fun, laughter and small family moments that turn into memories. Sometimes a boring day can create more memories than a busy one! ((hugs))

I am feeling the same way! This year it just us. I am cooking still but I really wanted to spend it
with the rest of the family the sad part is we are not on good terms!
I hope you and your family have a great day no matter what you do!

Big hugs, I feel ya. I was raised around 28 firs cousins, and a big hubub around the holidays. My husband is dutch and never celebrated Thanksgiving so he doesn’t care. I miss it for me and my kids though. We have no family here and it sucks. I too am trying to figure out what I want to do for tomorrow. I always overcook, but I like all the fixings.

Aw, I totally understand what your going through-We usually have all sorts of family over for the holidays and this year it’s just going to be my mum, dad, me and my sister. It’s definitely bittersweet but there’s always Christmas!

We are doing it small this year as well, I don’t know it just does not feel like Thanksgiving. But just like you I am thankful for quite a few things. I hope you have a nice holiday :)

It is very hard not cooking for 15-20. We have a 6 person household and always have lots of left overs. I am super worried the Thanksgiving turkey won’t all get eaten. The smallest one I could find was 17 lbs. And we have nobody visiting for Thanksgiving.

  12. Cat with that food blog you have you can whip together a 10 lb turkey should take u all day and it will be just enough

  13. Victoria says:

This Thanksgiving is going to be tough on me too, Cat, so I feel ya. My #1 thing to be grateful for? All of you wonderful people out there on the internet, keeping it real.

I hope you have a lovely Thanksgiving after all. :)
