There are times in our lives where I just wonder, “what the hell were you thinking?”…to my husband of course. This man just doesn’t think sometimes, kinda like my animal cracker and the butt incident, he didn’t think our toddler would take his translation so literally.
So we had Mexican food for dinner and my husband’s dish was covered in jalapeno peppers, no big deal, until our little eating machine asked for one. My husband stops her dead in her sticky finger tracks and says, “no, Kaydee, it’s hot!” Who could blame him, peppers are hot right?
Not ten minutes later Kaydee comes running into my bedroom screaming her little head off. She makes a mad dash for the bathroom, leaps onto the step stool and proceeds to douse her face in cold water. I couldn’t for the life of me figure out was going on so I just assumed she got something nasty in her mouth and helped her rinse her mouth out. Then my husband comes running to the bedroom with the evidence….a mangled jalapeno pepper she fished out of the garbage. Going along with the train of thought of a toddler, daddy said the pepper was hot, so waiting ten minutes for it too cool off seemed logical enough.
I feel terrible she had to learn the difference between spicy hot and temperature hot this way.
Her poor face broke out in red burns from the spice of the pepper. She has the most sensitive skin and the rash broke out almost immediately.

Poor little monkey
What red face.. all I see is amazing brown eyes and the sweetest curly hair!!!!!!!
Cat,
Okay. Since she’s not seriously hurt, I have to just laugh. I have a younger sister who is also very literal in her thinking. She made (and still does) life quite amusing growing up. Oh what fun we’re going to have at Kaydee’s expense. One thing that is good is the lessons will probably only have to be taught once because she’ll remember her experience.
Yeah, no lasting pains…except tummy ache from all the milk she guzzled after. lol
Oh Cat! Poor baby! Hope the “burns” go away quickly.
Oh owie! Poor Girl!
Yowza. That is some sensitive skin! Was it from contact? Or was that all from tasting it. Poor sweetie.
Poor little girl – she is beautiful though!!
Ouch, poor baby.
Aww, poor baby. I bet she will know the difference between heat hot and spicy hot now. Daddy will have to be more clear on that for her.
Oh no, poor baby! I hope she’s feeling better. I myself won’t touch the things, but my husband will just sit there and eat them. Maybe it’s a macho thing – lol!
♥ Happy Tuesday! ♥
Ha … my husband isn’t feeling so macho anymore. Those peppers gave him a night to remember.
Poor thing. My 3 year old son recently took my father-in-law out to our garden to show him our veggies. He picked a couple jalapenos for grandpa to take home. Before they could put them in the car, he bit the pepper off clear up to the stem. He started turning all shades of red, but didn’t spit it out. My wife had to tell him it was ok to spit it out before he finally spit every last bit of it out in the yard.
Ohh noo…unfortunately I can guarantee that is something Kaydee would do. Kids have to live and learn right?
Wow I guess they were pretty hot. We had to have the whole talk with the kids about hot/spicy vs. hot temperature. I guess she really thought they looked good, even in the garbage. Poor baby.
Poor thing. Its hard when they are young to let them know that something is spicy hot rather than the temperature being hot.
Scary that they do that to facial skin and we chomp them down like candy. Do you think hot (spicy) peppers can be good for our insides? I grow them and I often wonder this as I am eating my favorite homemade salsa…
It will be interesting to see later in her life if she eats and loves those peppers! Those darn things gotta be loved if she ever touches one again! Sweet baby!
That precious little thing. It takes so long to get that sensation out too.
Oh no Cat! Poor little Kaydee! I bet that hurt. My dh loves spicy things too and so do our younger two but my oldest hates it. Hope she’s feeling better.
Ohhh poor baby! But she is beautiful red burns and all
OH NO! That’s horrible.
I didn’t realize your daughter takes things so LITERALLY!
Poor thing =/
Ok, that is sad & funny at the same time! Poor baby!
Awwwwwwww….
Love the cute curls!
Aww! My little one did this when she was about 10 months old and also got a blotchy face from it.
Aw poor thing! My little one will dig through the trash too when I tell her she can’t eat something. I swear she must be a raccoon.
O my gosh, I didnt know that could happen. Poor thing..
Lucy
Heres my Thursday post

Oh what a face. I guess daddy learned a lesson too. It reminds me when I was little and my brother would dare me to eat hot stuff. He’s a wuss now, he’s 12 years older and I can practically drink hot sauce.
LOL too funny!! Kids are so cute! And to dig it out of the trash. I bet she learned real quick and will remember what HOT is when daddy tells her “no it’s hot” next time.
Poor baby! She probably won’t want to eat a jalapeno for a while!
That’s amazing–gives you some insight into how little brains work. I once got some very hot dried peppers (my mom was stringing them) in my eyes, up my nose, etc, when I was very small and didn’t understand that everywhere I touched would get the pepper oil, too. It was miserable.
