Mother’s Day is just two days away, have you found the perfect gift for your mom? Are you wondering if you’ll be receiving a gift that you’ll love from your own children? I can admit, I’ve had a lot of disappointing Mother’s Day gifts in the past. While I certainly don’t expect a nice gift, just a smile and a hug makes my day, it is nice to get something extra special for Mother’s Day. And sometimes, that special gift is best received as a gift card so I don’t have to pretend I love that scrap paper wrapped tech gadget gift that is now collecting dust under the bed.
From Western Union
“Return the Love” is a national Mother’s Day Campaign designed to encourage consumers to give mom the perfect gift.
When researching Mother’s Day gifting trends, a recent Western Union consumer survey found:
- 42 percent of moms have pretended to like a Mother’s Day gift
- 30 percent thought the gift was either “thoughtful” but not a gift they wanted, or they did not receive a gift at all
- 42 percent find it hard to shop for the perfect gift for mom
Western Union and Grammy-award winning recording artist Wyclef Jean, and “Queen of Latin Pop” Paulina Rubio, “Return the Love” with special performances and appearances at the Billboard Latin Music Conference & Awards and a concert honoring military moms.
The survey, commissioned by Western Union and conducted by Wakefield Research, polled 1,000 people 18 years old and older between March 26 and March 28, 2010.

Western Union has set-up a Mother’s Day Flickr group where you can share photos of your mom or even a photo of you and your child. Each week, they are selecting photos from this gallery to display on the company’s home page at www.WesternUnion.com.

My mom is special in that through her job she has been an extraordinary “mom” to every school age child in our state. She heads up a program that gives teachers new and innovated ways to teach math to struggling students. She works tirelessly at the job but her efforts have paid off in that during the time she’s held this position the math test scores in our state have risen significantly!! For that I think my mom is a very special person indeed!!!

My mom is the best! When my dad’s business went belly-up and he lost our house, my mom worked from 6am until 6pm at night every night to put food on the table and keep our rent paid. And she still made time to keep the house tidy and look after her four kids.

The best thing about my Mom is her strength. She has always been our family’s mainstay. Now at 76 her heart is wearing out. Her doctor told her yesterday that she maybe had a year left to live and she wanted Mom to contact Hospice. And her first worry was how to tell her family that. Very sad news on Mothers Day w/e. My Mom is special for all she’s done for me thru out my life – when I was young, she made sure I got to try all sorts of activities, and could then pick what I really liked to do, based on having tried it. I’m doing the same with my daughter.

My mom is hilarious! She is always making people laugh.
My mom is such a selfless person. She was injured in a very bad car accident and has chronic pain daily, she doesn’t let that stop her or get in the way of enjoying life and spending time with her children and grand daughter. She is such an inspiration to teach me to move forward and not let things get me down.

My mom is a fabulous cook and makes the best tacos that I’ve ever had in my life. My mom is the Center of our family and she keeps all the different sides of the family connected together, bringing us together with large delicous family meals. My mom watches my children while I work, so they don’t have to go to day care and instead they get to be at home getting lots of grandma love. My mom has a beautiful loving and giving heart!

My mom taught me by example that a mother’s job is to protect, care for, and guide her children at all costs. I felt like nothing could ever hurt me when I was this my mom. I think my son feels the same way now.
My mom is amazing, after my dad and her split up she had to work 2 jobs but still managed to do fun things like Friday Family Movie Night with us every week. I love having fun memories like that and can’t wait to pass them onto my kids.

My mom was always there for me. As a stay-at-home mom, she taught me that the most important job a woman could have was to raise her children well. Though we didn’t have an abundance in material things, we knew we were loved.

My mom is the most amazing Mom! She worked so hard to teach us so many lessons, and for many years went without just to provide for us. I remember one winter when we were living on our farm, that she went a whole day without heat to save the wood to burn when we got home so we would not run out. That is pure love! She spent much of her time teaching us essential skills and basic traits. I adore my mom and to this very day I am grateful for her!

My little family and I are living with parents right now. Without even batting an eye, my mom has stepped up and helped us out in so many ways. I hope to find small ways to repay her along the way. This would be a fun little surprise for her!

My Mom made sure all us daughters knew how to take care of ourselves. That was a little unusual when we were growing up, but she saw her Mom (my grandma) struggle as a single Mom and knew that it was important to know how to take care of ourselves and our families.
