Wordless Wednesday – His and Hers

This past Sunday we celebrated Valentine’s Day by purchasing a couple of steaks that we would otherwise never shell out the money for and cooked TOGETHER. It really was amazing considering I’m so use to working alone in the kitchen. But what I thought was really odd was the end result. Our plates side by side…my itty bitty Fillet Mignon next to hubby’s T-Bone.

Note: I realize my Fillet Mignon may look a little strange, but that’s because I beat the hell out of it with a tenderizer and cut it half to make sure there was no pink and I mean NO PINK – not even a hint. I have a feeling if the butcher saw what I did to that $20 steak he would want to beat ME with the tenderizer mallet.

Feel free to add a direct link to your Wordless/Wordful Wednesday post below:

I love my meat DONE too!

That’s a huge chunk of meat your husband ate! Hard to believe a serving size is SUPPOSEDLY the size of a deck of cards. Then again, they also say 1/2 is a serving of ice cream!

    What planet are THEY from???

    HAHAHAHA!!!

  2. Staci A says:

Lol, I’m just glad to not me the only one to be so picky about meat! My hubby grills my steak, and I’ll throw it in the microwave just to be absolutely sure there’s no pink left!

  3. Katie says:

I’m the opposite, I love lots of pink in mine! I hope it was delicious and perfect for you!

  4. If that was in my family both pieces of meat would be on the his plate and my plate woudld be empty lmao I totally don’t eat steak, I hate most meat honestly. But my husband is drooling

  5. Your plates look like mine and my husband’s next to one another! Hope you had a great Valentine’s Day!

  6. Rachael says:

That’s hilarious! I’m not a huge meat eater but in our house the plates would be very similar. Hope your Valentine’s was great.

  7. You are like me…I can have NO PINK!

  8. shari says:

Oh yum! Looks better than our V-day meal of Lucky Charms cereal (no joke!) We were too lazy to cook and of course couldn’t get a reservation anywhere so we decided on our old favorite meal from the grad school days!

  9. Krystyn says:

That’s too funny. My hubby knows my steak should have little to no pink in it, either. I hope it was delicious!

  10. OMG, too funny! I cannot stand ANY pink in my meat either! It has to be almost dried out, LOL! I cut mine in half to to check! Love the portion size difference!

  11. Cat,

This is so foreign to me now, but when I did eat steak, I would never eat pink meat. On a side note, I probably would have enjoyed beating the hell out of it.

  12. Lynsey Jones says:

OhMiGosh *I* want to beat you with a mallet for doing that to a fillet!! Hahaha, I take mine RARE – has the BEST flavor! lol (typical sizing though isnt it!?) lol

  13. Robin says:

I used to work with a chef that refused to butterfly filets. He would get all huffy, if it was even suggested. He’d probably faint if he saw your plate Cat…lol

  14. Emily says:

Oooh I love Filet Mignon. I am kind of scared of red-meat too. My hubby would have gotten the TBone too. I like how there is like 6:1 meat to vegetables on your husbands plate ahhah

  15. Kelly W says:

    uuummmmm steak!!!

  16. Shana Putnam says:

you are probably right about the butcher…lol. Sounds like fun though!

  17. LOL! You are so funny Cat! Glad you had a Happy Valentine’s Day!

  18. Alexandra says:

and people say there isn’t a difference between men and women ;)

  19. Allison says:

What a great date night idea!

That is too funny about the no pink thing…at restaurants when they ask me how I want my steak cooked I say burn it and I MEAN it…I cannot eat a single bite if there is even a trace of pink.

  20. I have to laugh , I beat the … out any type of steak! Those look so good, it sure has been a long time since I had a good steak. Not being able to have a grill bites, can’t wait to move so I can grill outside again.

    Yummmy, now I want steak.

Hope you have a great day Cat:)

  21. Sharon says:

They both are making me hungry again and I just ate. I ate a steak for valentines to and told them no pink, I want it cooked and no mooing.

  22. Courtney says:

<— Odd ball out. Heh.. I love my steak pink! But either way it still looks delicious! :)

  23. Jayme says:

    LOL that’s hysterical!

  24. Amanda says:

LOL Forge the butcher, I’ll smack you for him *smack*. What you did to what was probably a beautiful piece of meat is a crime! I LOVE a nice cut of steak. YUM!

  25. Elizabeth says:

I love it! I used to do the same thing with filet mignon. So funny!

  26. DogsMom says:

Glad you had a good day and a great meal together.

  27. 1stopmom says:

That is such a sweet idea. I hope the two of you had a great day! And I am so with you about the pink thing! That is a big concern for me too.

  28. Stefani says:

My steak has to be done too!

  29. noelle d says:

lol, okay… when I first read it, I thought you said you purchased a couple stocks that you would normally not shell out money for…
LOL, Glad to see that I am not the only one who doesnt want any pink…
My family hates that I am that way, but sorry… i can not do pink at all

  30. lol! John and I both had steak for Valentine’s day, too. We went out and spent money we would NEVER spend on it, too. What really killed me was last night. I made corn beef and cabbage (I just throw it all into a pot of water and simmer until it’s done). He said it tasted BETTER than the steak. Ack! Then tell me why we went to a steak house? Because he wanted to! lol

  31. Thanks for the link Cat!

I’d rather do the teeny filet than a t-bone ;)

  32. Mmmm, steak. I can’t believe you cooked the hell out of it though, that’s terrible! I love mine with a good amount of pink :)

  33. Stella says:

I also had a butterflied filet mignon with no pink on Valentine’s Day. It was very yummy..I just couldn’t get myself to buy the raw steaks that the butchers had packaged side by side together to look like a heart. Bad marketing….or good, who knows?

  34. LOL, that is too funny. I used to be like that about pink. I now like some pink.

  35. Deborah says:

Actually with out the bone the quantity is about the same.

  36. Kasandria says:

Too cute! I do have to say I love the Fillet better.
    Happy WW!
    Kas

  37. Kayla says:

Ha. Wow. That’s quite a difference in the end result!
Hey, at least you guys had fun cooking and eating together :)

  38. Yep its like that at our house too! Nice that the hubby helped you cook

  39. Yes, his may be bigger…but you can’t beat a fillet!! I LOVE them!! Looks yum!

  40. OH – and you HAVE to have pink in a fillet. Otherwise…it’s just like any old tough steak! LOL

  41. Stefanie says:

LMAO @ the butcher comment! :D

Those both look sooo yummy! I’m starving! lol

  42. Firefly says:

No pink in my meat LOL it has to be done :) and I love using meat tenderizing mallet LOL don’t tell anyone but I really get a kick out of it :P Hubby thinks I have issues, and maybe he is right!

  43. That looks like our plates…I didn’t get the name Big Daddy for nothing!

  44. I would have done the same thing! I dont like pink in my meat either. Drives my husband crazy. He likes all his steaks rare. And I mean RARE. Like still purple rare. Its SO gross!

  45. Jennifer H says:

LOL too funny! And that’s how it is at our house too. He’s like a garbage disposal, if there’s anything left over from mine or our son’s plate, he eats it!

  46. Henrietta says:

your steaks look a bit like hearts too :) I agree that there should be NO pink at all in meat! NONE!

  47. That is pretty funny! Poor filet…I don’t like my steak bloody but yeah you killed yours LOL.

  48. That’s what my husband’s and my steak dinners usually look like! Hope it was delcious!

  49. traci smith says:

i am the same way about pink meat, when i used to eat it,i will send it back repeatedly if they cant cook it WELL WELL done, if i saw pink after taking a bite it would make me sick , i learned to cut it FIRST, lol

  50. I showed my husband your photo and he was horrified at that filet! He is a medium rare man. I would have liked the T-bone myself, but only a PORTION of it, then I would have given the bone to little Nano… our extrememly spoiled little baby.
    Hope you enjoyed your meal!!
