Wordless Wednesday – Thumb, it’s what’s for dinner!

We finally did it! We got ourselves a thumb sucker! I know it’s not usually an exciting thing but this our third child and neither of the first two ever sucked their thumbs. I thought ALL babies did this and mine were just weird. lol Imagine my surprise when I see litle Emma doing this…

Thumb suckers are great, love the self pacification…unfortunately I am trying to get my newly three year old to stop the occassional tasting of the thumb. But my littlest is new at thumb sucking & I am happy about it!

  2. Cat,

The picture is adorable. We opted for the other type of pacifier (a.k.a. paapaa) because we thought it would be easier to wean them from the sucking when they grew older. When it was time for each of them to get off of it (by 2 1/2 mths), the paapaa mysteriously (seriously, I had nothing to do w/it – really) disappeared. My youngest is going through withdrawals (almost one week now) and it is killing both of us. Just one more week (hopefully) and maybe he will stop asking for it.

  3. Stefanie says:

Awww…how cute! My youngest is a thumb sucker and we can’t get her to stop! Her thumb gets all cracked and red and looks like it hurts but she doesn’t care! Happy WW to ya…tomorrow! lol ;)

  4. Staci A says:

Absolutely adorable! Thumbs are so much easy than pacifiers (and cheaper if your little one constantly loses them like mine did).

  5. Allison says:

That is so adorable! None of my babies sucked their thumbs but i think it’s the cutest thing in the world when they do!

  6. That is so sweet and peaceful!

  7. susan says:

Awww, how sweet and precious. I just love baby pics.

  8. What a sweet photo. Omg. So sweet. She looks beautiful. On another note, congrats on having a thumn sucker. hehe

Happy WW from Sara @ the Mostly Wordless Wednesday H.Q.!

  9. My babies never sucked on their thumbs either. Maybe it’s because I always had a pacifier handy for them. There are benefits and cons to thumb-sucking and pacifiers. I love it when they can finally get to the age where they can put the pacifier into their own mouth. I would assume that happens a lot soon with thumb-sucking.

  10. Kris says:

I want a thumb sucker lol

  11. Janelle says:

What a cute picture! No pacifiers or thumb suckers in our house. Just a lot of crying.

  12. Bridgette says:

Awwww….I miss those tiny baby days!! She is precious!

  13. Yeah for thumb sucking! My son doesn’t do it, nor does he use the pacifier. I’m his human pacifier and it sucks that he can’t self soothe!

  14. Jess says:

Precious! None of my kids sucked their thumbs either…we have 4!

  15. harriet says:

    I had a thumb sucker.
    Cute pic.

  16. She is a beautiful baby! I had a thumb sucker too. Let me tell you it is HARD to break the habit. You can’t give the thumb to Santa Claus like you can the pacifier! She is just precious. Happy early Mother’s Day!

  17. Karen says:

That is just the cutest thing. None of my 3 babies ever sucked their thumbs either.

  18. Renee says:

She is beautiful!! Neither of my boys were thumb suckers either, but I don’t think we will try for a third to find out.LOL

  19. Rhea says:

That is the sweetest thing EVER! I love it.

  20. Brandi says:

I always thought thumb sucking was very adorable. We have had one that sucked her thumb, and two that sucked on their blankies. And two pacie babies.

  21. Shannon says:

Adorable! Neither of mine are thumb suckers either. My oldest wanted nothing to do with a paci (well he sucked one on and off for maybe a month when he was an infant) but my youngest LOVES a paci. It’s crazy how different each kid is.

  22. Amy says:

She is so cute! I have six and so far none suck their thumb — sometimes I wish they would!!!!

  23. Sheila H says:

    Thats so sweet!

  24. Gena says:

That is just the sweetest pic ever!

  25. Shannon says:

That is sooooo cute! I love your header too :)

  26. Tanya says:

Priceless and precious! I always wanted a thumbsucker too. LOL

  27. Pamela says:

    awhhhhh so sweet

  28. Susan S says:

That is such a sweet photo!

My oldest was/IS a thumb sucker. She is STILL doing it at age 7! We have tried so many things to get her to stop, but we have finally just given up and we hope she just stops on her own (she mainly does it at bedtime or at home).
My youngest took to the binky rather than his thumb. We had him off the binky by 2-1/2 with NO problems!

Yes, thumb sucking is sooo cute when you see a baby doing it….Now looking at my 7 yr old still sucking her thumb????? Not so cute :-(

    Anyway, what a sweet photo!

  29. Cassie says:

    How cute!

  30. Michelle says:

What an adorable picture! Thumb sucking is so cute when they are babies!

  31. Stefani says:

What an adorable picture. My son had started doing this when he was smaller (he is 15 months now), but we kept pulling it out of his mouth.

  32. zeemaid says:

my babies never sucked on their thumb either.. well I think maybe once when they managed to find their mouths otherwise no serious habits at all. I was glad cause I sucked my fingers as a child for waaaaaaaaaaaay to long for it to be normal. *L*

    She’s so sweet! :)

  33. Jen says:

Thumbsuckers are sooo cute : ). I sucked my thumb until I was 5. My son sucked his thumb off and on as a baby, but mostly took a pacifier. My 13 month old daughter is a huge thumbsucker just like I was (and even has to have a little blanket to hold, just like I did) and while I’m not looking forward to when the time comes to break her of the habit (if she doesn’t break herself of it), I think it is totally adorable and sweet : ).

  34. Staci says:

    How sweet!

  35. Jess says:

AWE How sweet! Neither one of mine did that.

  36. That’s adorable. Be careful what you wish for, my 4yr old still hasn’t gotten over the need for thumb sucking. LOL. My 5 month old instead of sucking his thumb, sucks his two fingers. It’s cute.

    She is super beautiful.

  37. Jinxy says:

She’s adorable. My girl sucks on the side of her hand or a bunch of fingers.

  38. Tammy says:

Ooooh, how cute. That makes me want another baby.

  39. Shasta says:

That has to be one of the cutest thumb sucking pictures ever!! So sweet! My 3rd child was my first thumb sucker too, and then he quit on his own at 15 months, but it was so cute while it lasted!

  40. AJacobsen says:

Aw, that is adorable!! None of mine sucked their thumbs, and although I know they say it’s hard to break, I always thought it was adorable when babies suck their thumbs!!

  41. DJ says:

Love this photo! I was so happy when my son finally found his thumb. he slept so much better. Problem is now he is 4 and I’m trying to convince him to stop. Oh well we can’t have it both ways I guess, lol

  42. awwwwwwwwwwww so sweet my cranky pants never shows me moments as cute as that. ENJOy her Cat they grow to quickly!

  43. Jessica says:

I have one of those. She is in my lap with her thumb in her mouth as I type.

  44. Jacqueline says:

So precious! What a terrific capture! 4 babies and still no thumb sucker here. They all prefered Mommy instead, lol.:)

  45. WAHMcafe says:

That is the most adorable picture! I love it, thanks for sharing. It made me smile.(not to mention belting out a few “awwwes”) ~Angie

  46. Oh my goodness, I WANT ONE! My kids never sucked their thumbs either. My daughter sucked her tongue believe it or not. My son used a pacifier (til he was 3 ugh).

    Come visit.

    I will hold her.

    And talk to her.

And we will become life-long friends.

    LOL

but leave the turtle at home.
