Risky Business: High-Yield Investment Options Only the Truly Brave Should Try

July 7, 2018 by admin

Investors can either play it safe or go all out and take on a whole load of risk. The riskier an investment is, the higher your return yield could be. Nearly all investors prefer to take on these high-return investments, but cannot manage the risk either financially or emotionally, but if you are drawn to the thrill of this type of investment, there are several risky but potentially lucrative investment methods to consider. As always, investors should weigh the risk against potential returns. When seeking massive returns, investors risk becoming gamblers, therefore, understand the exact amount of risk you face if you continue to seek over-the-top returns.

Buying and Selling Stocks Daily

Playing the stock market every 24 hours, known as day trading, is a highly risky form of investing, however, savvy traders can have their lucky break and possibly even become millionaires overnight. Traders tend to have an infamous reputation because they are taking on massive amounts of risk when buying stocks. Selling off purchased stock is never a guarantee. Regardless of these problems, professional traders can enjoy massive paydays, so the practice remains popular. Anyone can become a trader if they know the risks and understand that they could lose all their money. That’s not to say that you would. But if a trade goes wrong, you should be able to withstand the loss financially and psychologically. Start trading with a set amount, such as $1,000, that you can easily earn back. Never buy stock with money you actually need.

Investing in Emerging Markets

An emerging market is a country undergoing rapid economic development after years of underperformance. The biggest emerging market in recent history is China. There are many such countries today that could be categorized as emerging markets for investors to fund. Investing in an emerging market can really pay off, as seen in countries like China and South Korea. However, this can also go the other way. A prominent example is Brazil, once lauded as a major world economy that has since fallen apart due to corruption and violence. Emerging markets exist in countries with young governments and a history of war and unrest. The drawback, however, is that these very problems could crop up once more, threatening economic gains. War and unrest are certainly not elements that draw in investors. Despite these obvious risks, investing in an emerging market can pay off if the country continues to be successful. Think China. However, there are inherent political risks that cannot be shaken off. You should invest in emerging markets only if you can take on unexpected political risks.

High Yield Bonds

High yield bonds can be issued by either governments or companies. These bonds have one characteristic—extraordinary returns. For these eye-popping returns, the investor would be taking on extraordinary levels of risk as well. The problem with high yield bonds is that nearly 10 percent of them are junk bonds—worthless at the end of the day. Investors may double the risk of principal capital loss if

Christmas on a Budget – Here’s What You Can Do to Save Money

July 6, 2018 by admin

Christmas is the most expensive time of year. The average family spends around $950 on Christmas, which is a significant chunk of money if you don’t have a lot of spare cash. The good news is that you can do Christmas on a budget. Here’s how!

Royalty Free Photo

Start Saving Early

Start saving as early as possible. If you can afford to, put a little bit of money aside each month to pay for any big-ticket Christmas purchases. Kids these days are usually desperate for expensive electronic gadgets at Christmas, which can be a huge drain on a family budget. You could buy these items on a credit card, but that will cost you more in interest and going into the New Year with a debt burden is not advisable.

Some stores do savings schemes for their customers. You can put aside a small amount each month and when Christmas arrives, you have your nest egg to spend. It is especially useful for grocery shopping, as buying extra food and alcohol at Christmas is expensive.

Save Money on Decorations

Christmas decorations need not cost the earth. While real Christmas trees are lovely and smell divine, they can be pricey, and you are then stuck with a dead or dying tree in January. One way to circumvent this issue is with an artificial tree. Artificial Christmas trees often look just as nice as a real tree, but their biggest advantage is that they can be reused year after year. So aside from your initial investment, it won’t cost you anything extra. Look for a tree that fits your budget. Balsam Hill Christmas trees are a popular brand that offers great value for money.

Don’t spend money you can’t afford on expensive baubles and garlands. Make your own! Kids love to be creative at Christmas. Let them play with paper and glitter. They will probably bring home some pretty decorations from school. Use this as a starting point and then look online for more ideas. It’s amazing what you can do when you have some paper, glitter, and imagination.

Create festive garlands using holly, ivy, and greenery from your garden. String evergreen garlands together using florist wire and hang them over your fireplace and above pictures. A little bit of greenery will transform your home into a festive grotto.

Start Buying Early

Don’t leave it until the last minute to do your Christmas shopping. Prices inevitably go up nearer the holidays, so you will end up paying more than you need to. Have a list and keep an eye out for bargains in the months prior to Christmas. If you have young children, pick up small toys in the sales and watch out for second-hand jigsaws and books in thrift stores.

Do the same with your grocery shopping. Many food items can be frozen in advance, so if you see a great BOGOF deal, freeze the extra so you can use it over the holidays.

Don’t panic about Christmas. Have a budget and stick to it. That way, you won’t be caught out.

Out of the Closet: 2018 Wardrobe Staples Revisited

June 29, 2018 by admin

While cute fashion trends are endless, our bank account, however, is not. You know how it is every season – you grab a magazine, you browse the latest styles, and you just about go crazy from creative joy as you see a bunch of stunning garments that you just know would look flawless on you. And then you check the small print underneath that has the price tag on it, get a minor heart attack, and realize that you are sadly not made of cash. Does this mean you don’t get to be fashionable? Hell no. A fashionista is not rich, a fashionista is creative, thrifty, and knows the worth of a good staple garment. With a few versatile pieces, a style-savvy gal can make magic happen, so if you want to know what you’ll need to make 2018 be your best fashion year yet, read on.

Denim jacket

Denim everything is really in right now! But while some pieces can be considered great staples, other things are very obviously going to last only one season and then be tossed away at the back of your closet. For example, denim crop tops, corsets, and tube tops might sound like a fun idea, but in reality, they’re impractical, hard to style, and can very easily come off as tacky. But denim jacket? That’s what you should invest in. You’ll be staying true to the jeans-material-is-everything, but you’ll also have something useful on your hands. You can wear it with pretty much anything – from maxi dresses to graphic tees and shorts combo. Pick a classic straight cut if you like it subtle, or maybe something with distressed denim details to give it a bit of an edge.

Sneakers for style and comfort

Athleisure is no longer just a trend, it’s a lifestyle. If Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner can make it their staples, so can we, and the very basis of good athleisure lies in sneakers. They’re comfy, they’re good for your feet and your posture, and they just so happen to be very fashionable right now as well. Whether you wear them with leggings, miniskirts, jeans, or baggy sweatpants, it’s up to you. They’re not limited to athleisure either – a sassy pair of kicks goes well with a cute dress, so don’t be afraid to experiment.

Timeless bags

What could possibly be more practical than a good bag? It’s the perfect accessory for any lady, and the latest women’s black bags are so perfectly elegant and sleek that they’re bound to make any outfit more stylish. Nothing like a cute little tote or a saddle bag made of leather to make you look sophisticated, or if you crave something more casual you could pick a backpack. Make sure that it’s black in color if you want to keep it versatile and trendy, and feel free to wear it with absolutely everything.

Bombshell pencil skirt

These curve-hugging garments are the ultimate sexy staple that somehow manages to be entirely professional at the same time. They look great when paired with simple button-down shirts if you need them for the office, but they’re actually quite a good idea for a date night as well. Wear a red silk blouse and a pair of heels and you’ll be achieving elegance with absolutely no effort. Don’t be afraid to pair them with graphic tees for an urban, street style look, or with a crop top and a cute clutch for a party night. If you want to make it even more interesting, pick a black leather pencil skirt.

Blazers for work

Pantsuits are still extremely popular this year, but you don’t have to invest in a whole suit if your budget doesn’t allow it. A good blazer is worth the money because it’s one of the easiest things to wear, and it’s absolutely priceless for office fashion. A plain white tee and jeans can be made professional with the help of a suit jacket, and having a few of these in versatile neutrals (black, navy, white) will mean you always have something to fall back on when you need to look polished.

Classic jeans

Straight-cut jeans are back! You don’t have to throw away your favorite pair of skinnies at all, but having old school, Levi’s cut jeans with a straight leg and maybe a tapered cut means owning something that’s never going to go out of style. This is truly a timeless staple that is impossible not to love, so if you love your denim, enjoy styling it in creative ways.

Make your own capsule wardrobe with these trendy-yet-practical items! You don’t have to spend a ton of cash to look good, you just need to mix and match good staple pieces and you’ll be surprised at how far it can take you.

How to Make Your House Healthier with Less Noise Pollution

June 19, 2018 by admin

Soundproofing your house aims to reduce noise levels which results in better rest, better sleep and better mental health. In this article I will talk about different aspects of soundproofing and how it will make your home healthier for you and your children.

The need for soundproofing

Noise is an unwanted or unpleasant sound that can be described being loud, harsh and confusing to the ears. As NIDCD puts it, a prolonged exposure of any noise above 85dB causes gradual hearing loss while the exposure of more than one minute of 110dB or more of noise increases the risk of permanent hearing loss.

These values don’t make sense if you don’t understand how they correspond to the sound level that you may be exposed to. Unless you live in a quiet rural area (40dB) or a quiet suburban (50dB), majority of urban neighborhoods are characterized by loud busy streets, noisy offices, loud heavy traffic, passing subway trains and loud car horns which correspond to between 70dB and 100dB.

Property developers and home builders alike do not take noise seriously as they ought to. This applies to residents as well who only come to think about the sound of their dwellings when health problems like hearing impairment, cardiovascular diseases, sleep disturbances, diabetes and high levels of stress hormones, impaired brain function and hypertension among many others arise.

How to make your home soundproof

Living in a quite environment is possible for you and your children even if you live in a noisy street or next to a highway. All you need to do is improve your home  with noise considerations in mind. Sound can be transmitted, absorbed, reflected or diffused and this means that you can create a relatively quiet and pleasant home by balancing all these aspects of sound as follows:

Windows

Windows are major transmitters of noise from outside and this can be minimized by reducing the number of windows or upgrading to sound-proof windows that are designed to stop noise by breaking up the exterior sound waves.

Interior materials

Interior materials that are usually considered luxurious and used on doors and floors can contribute immensely to high sound levels.  Such materials include glass and French sliding barn doors, wood and tile floors as well as hardwood staircases.

Avoid this by using soft materials that are known to attenuate sound like fiberglass, acoustic foam, hanging baffles, acoustic partitions and quiet boards among others.

Interior space

One property of sound waves is that they become quieter as they travel further or when an intervening object is placed in their path. An open concept is very convenient when it comes to home entertainment and ease of movement but you will need to consider using large floor rugs and heavy curtains that will help in absorbing sound.

The entertainment system

The entertainment system is usually the source of interior noise in any home. This is especially when you use subwoofers, mount them on walls or place them near sleeping rooms. In such cases, it is mostly children who suffer because they will be deprived of sleep as well as suffer from other health effects that are associated with noise pollution.

Sound pollution is bad for the health of your family especially children and it is important to soundproof your home as a prevention measure to avoid future complications.
