Tips on How to Ensure You Get Alimony from your Divorce

A divorce can be a complicated affair, no matter how amicably everything was settled. Alimony, or the monthly financial support a spouse is legally mandated to provide the other, can even be more complicated due to the many factors that can affect who gets rewarded with it. The decision of who gets alimony and the exact amount comes from the result of a court case after reviewing the circumstances surrounding the divorce itself.

To help with this we’ve compiled a list of things you can do to ensure you get alimony from your divorce, and continue to receive alimony for the foreseeable future.

  1. Prove that your spouse’s total income is higher than yours throughout the course of your marriage. Salary slips, bank account statements, purchase receipts – everything that you think that can prove that your spouse or partner has a higher and more substantial income than you may help get you the alimony you deserve. Evidence of your own underemployment throughout the marriage – as a stay-at-home parent or spouse – will be handy as well.
  2. Prove that you have an inability to obtain work or income that will allow you to survive financially without alimony in the long term. If you are sick, elderly or have a chronic condition/injury that prevents you from working (or could affect your chances of being hired), prepare to bring it up in the court hearing. It may be beneficial if you could get a doctor’s signed statement about your condition or inability to work, as well as a tally of your total monthly expenses.
  3. Prove that your financial status and/or quality of life will be severely affected without alimony. Be sure to mention (and provide evidence for) everything that can happen to you financially if you are not awarded alimony. From being unable to buy your prescription medication to being unable to pay utility/food bills, do your best to paint as detailed a picture to the judge presiding over your divorce hearing. As much as possible, try not to mention any luxury or hobby expenses that you will not be able to partake in – the key here is to gain the judge’s sympathy and favor.
  4. Prove that you do your best to live within your means and can be financially responsible with the alimony. Looking and acting the part for all your court appearances is the key to winning a civil case, divorce or otherwise. Refrain from wearing loud, extravagant and casual clothing – clean and business casual fashion works. Speak clearly and respectfully to the judge, your lawyer, and even your ex-spouse. Avoid emotional outbursts and quarrels, especially in the view of your children and the judge.

If the judge rules in your favor and awards you alimony, remember that it shouldn’t be relied upon as a permanent means of income. Your right to receive it can be reviewed and revoked at any time should the court decide that it is no longer necessary. Thankfully, you can do the following to help prevent against this:

  • Stay single. Having a relationship is fine, but formally remarrying will not be in your favor in the eyes of the court.
  • Live alone. Just like remarrying, living with someone will make the judge think that you now have someone to share expenses with, whether you do or don’t. As you may think, this could drastically affect the alimony decision.
  • Maintain good relations with your ex-spouse. Avoid quarrels and public scenes as much as possible, online or offline.
  • Lawyer up. If your ex-spouse decides to skip on paying alimony, seek the services of an attorney to help you file a petition to force them to do so. If you find this to be an expense you cannot afford, contact your local legal aid organization for a pro-bono attorney who will take your case for free.

From the moment you become a mom, it seems like your motor can never stop. It begins with midnight diapers and goes on to homework, soccer practice, band camp, and watching curfew. There is never time to slow down.

For the busy mom, it is important to figure out how to rebuild your stores of energy so that you can keep up with all the things your kids need you to do. That includes not just your physical energy but also your physical condition and your mental state. If you pay close attention to these, you’ll be able to maintain your Super Mom routine. If not, you’ll find yourself tired, frustrated, and irritable, and your family will suffer as well.

First, you’ll want to take care of your physical needs with your demanding schedule. As we age, things change with our bodies. Everything from our joints to our circulation isn’t what it used to be, so it is important to take care of those things. Not only will the kids help you get some work done, you will also have a different viewpoint on those daily needs that is a little more fun and a little less drudgery.

Finally, don’t forget to be an adult sometimes. We can get so caught up in all the essential activities of our kids that we neglect our adult lives. We lose touch with friends, costing us that adult interaction that we need. It is so important to come up for air once in a while, and you need adult time to do that.

Go out with friends. Go to a concert, a play, or a museum. Don’t go shopping; you’ll spend the whole time looking at things for your kids and you’ll miss the entire point.

Raising kids is a great responsibility. To keep up, we have to take care of our bodies and minds. Keep that perspective and you’ll find your stress levels will be lower and your happiness will be higher.

The Father of American Football is considered to be Walter Camp, who exchanged the traditional rugby scrum for a line of scrimmage in 1880. Two years later, in order to negate Yale and Princeton’s strategy to hold the ball without scoring, the four down system was introduced.

The following year the number of players was reduced to eleven, the seven-man offensive line with a quarterback, two halfbacks, and a full back was proposed. The first professional American football game took place in 1895, and in the early 1920s, the National Football League (NFL) was established. Now it is impossible to imagine the modern United States without football. It became not only a game but a whole symbol of a disciplined and energetic nation.

4 Fun Stepping Stone Ideas For Your Family Friendly Garden

These fun and playful stepping stones encourage kids to learn the colors. Children love jumping from one object to the next, and this gives them a safe place to play.

Staying in shape is so important to a healthy life, and yet sometimes – more times than we’d like to admit – working out and exercising takes second priority. Everyone works so hard, hours are long, and downtime is precious. That’s why, when we want to spend time with our families, we don’t want to forsake them for the gym. What if you could do both, though? What if you could get fit and healthy and spend time with the kids? What if the kids benefitted too? Now wouldn’t that be awesome? Well, here are some ideas on how to do exactly that.

Get Outdoors

Getting fit and healthy doesn’t necessarily mean lifting weights or going for a run. You can take it pretty easy and still get some goodness into you. Going for a walk when you would have normally taken the car is a great start. Children spend a lot of time strapped into car seats, chugging along the road. Try something different and go exploring in your local neighborhood, or head out to the park and run around.

Join A Kid-Friendly Gym

If you do want to join a gym, do your research before picking the one that’s closest, or has the best deals. They might not be the best ones in the long term. There are gyms that are family friendly, and these are the ones you want to look out for. These gyms will have family days, with activities for everyone, or they might have kids’ classes which they can enjoy while you work out – afterwards, you can meet up for a healthy meal, and a debrief on how your various classes went! This is perfect for having a little bit of ‘me time’, which is something we all sometimes need. It could be anything; you could even pick a new sport each week if that’s what you’re into. For the more competitive families you can tally up the scores and the monthly winner can get a prize. For those who prefer the taking part to the results, just go ahead and have fun. Swimming, tennis, soccer, baseball… there are dozens of sports to choose from, and all of them will make you feel healthier.

Around The House

You don’t even have to leave the house to get fit. Does the yard need tidying? Spend an hour out there with the kids and get it looking good. Working hard sweeping leaves or picking weeds is still exercise, even if it’s not a sport or a gym class. Washing cars, cleaning windows, walking the dog (okay, that one requires leaving the house, but you get the idea), anything and everything that means moving about is good. There will be a huge sense of achievement when the jobs are done, at which point you can reward yourself – and the kids – with a movie, a video game, or whatever else makes you all happy.
