How to Survive Summer in Australia

August 9, 2018 by admin

Australian summers are just wonderful and many people dream of having a vacation there. There is huge number of options regarding beaches, regions, natural sceneries as well as activities. There’s a little bit of something for everyone. This is particularly satisfying if you are from the Northern hemisphere and have decided to escape the winter by fleeing to the Land Down Under. Not only will you be skipping the cold and tedious winter, but you’ll be doing it in one of the best vacation destinations in the world. However, there are dangers you should be mindful of during your vacation time as the heat is very strong and the nature has its own hazards. It’s better to be safe than sorry which is why we’re here to give you a few pointers:

The sun

Summers in Australia can get very intense in terms of high temperatures and sunburn hazards. This is why you need to have a bottle of water with you wherever you go. Please take this seriously, otherwise, the heat and dehydration can get to you anytime, and if there’s no water nearby, you’ll be facing serious health issues such as a heat exhaustion, cramps or a heat stroke. It’s very likely you’ll need urgent medical attention or you might even endanger your life. That is why you should also wear sunscreen and protect your skin wearing light clothes in order to prevent skin cancer and other serious problems.

The accommodation

Regardless of your choice of a place to stay, be mindful of the fact that nights in Australia can also be extremely warm. While some people can handle high temperatures and the heat at night, others cannot sleep in a room that is too warm. That is why installing air conditioning in Sydney is a routine thing. Don’t let this tiny, yet important issue such as the lack of AC ruin your vacation. Make sure your rented house, hotel or hostel has a functioning cooling device, otherwise, many sleepless nights await you (and we do not mean in a good way).

The beaches

Australia has numerous amazing beaches, both wild and refined. Naturally, you need to be careful when swimming anywhere. Be honest with yourself. Are you a great swimmer, an OK swimmer or an insecure one? The answer will tell you how careful you need to be at the beach. Make sure not to leave safety areas or not to go far away from the shore if you’re on a wild beach. Many people drown during the summer all over Australian beaches and the issue needs to be taken seriously.

The roads

Given that Australia is a country of huge vastness and just a few cities, it has many roads where you can drive full-speed. However, that doesn’t mean you should. It’s easy to hit the gas pedal and get lost in the scenery. There’s generally not much traffic most of the time, especially if you’re going through some remote parts, but you should still be very careful as there are all sorts of drivers out there whose driving you cannot control. This is why you need to do your best to be alert at all times.

The camping

Since the country is full of wonderful natural sights, it is a great candidate for many picnics, as well as for camping. This sounds like a lot of fun and it really is. However, Australia has all sorts of dangerous wildlife and you should only camp in the areas that are secured and where camping is allowed. Another important remark is that there is a very strict fire restriction in Australia during the summer. The heats can be very strong and the amount of wind makes it very easy for a fire to spread out of control. Also, the fines are quite high, so you need to remember that lighting a fire is an absolute NO.

In this article we were focusing on the hazards and potential issues that you might encounter during the summer in Australia. Have these safety measures in mind and try to stick to them. Of course, don’t get obsessive, as long as you stick to the basic rules, you’re most likely to stay safe and have the great enjoyable vacation you’ve been fantasizing about.

Cologne has a lot to offer, including the coveted Cologne Cathedral. But that does not mean that the city has played all the cards that can inspire a visitor. What hardly anyone knows is that the parking garages in Cologne can offer something spectacular. Usually the parking garages are purely functional buildings. The 1950s construction on Cäcilienstraße shows that these can be architecturally interesting as well. This parking garage should not necessarily be accessed from the inside, from the department store streets. If you are fit, the parking garage can also be climbed from the outside. A view upwards shows the sky-storming and light-flooded dome of the parking garage. Just below this dome, at first glance, is the staircase, which you can go further up. Up there you come to the roof of the parking garage, which proves to be a spectacular platform. From here you can overlook Cologne and see a fascinating panorama. A real insider tip for visitors and residents.

Family Skiing Trips to Remember

August 3, 2018 by admin

The United States is blessed with hundreds of ski resorts, and many of them make perfect destinations for a family vacation. As soon as your kids can walk they can start skiing, and in fact the younger they are when they start, the more quickly they will get the hang of it. Children have a unique perspective on the joys of snow, and love to see how it changes the landscape, plus of course building snowmen, making snow angels, and having snowball fights! They will probably find the idea of spending a whole week playing in the snow irresistible, but to make sure they do have the time of their lives, stick to a few basic rules for enjoying your skiing vacation.

Choose the right resort

There are all kinds of resorts, and it’s important to select a family friendly location for your trip. Some resorts are geared more towards the experienced skier, with few facilities for novices and children so that they wouldn’t be a good choice. You want to choose somewhere that welcomes families and has suitable nursery slopes, tutors who are experienced in teaching children, and plenty of off-piste activities to keep everyone entertained. Whistler Blackcomb in British Columbia, Vail in Colorado and Jackson Hole in Wyoming are among the most highly rated resorts, and all have a wide range of facilities to keep all members of the family happy.

Choose the right accommodation

You want the place you stay in to be warm and comfortable, as it will be cold and there could be snowstorms. Feeling snug and secure in your accommodation is a vital counterpoint to bundling up and heading out for a day on the icy slopes. Lodges are a popular choice, which may be self-catering or have a chef service, whereby your meals are prepared and cooked for you each evening. For an indulgent experience and a full range of services, you could choose to stay in top-rated surroundings such as one of the Jackson Hole luxury hotels. This is a great choice if you want to be pampered and not have to worry about cooking and cleaning during your stay.

Get the kids prepared

You’ll need to get the kids some suitable thermal clothing and outerwear to keep them warm. Nothing is as likely to put your kids off the idea of skiing as much as getting wet and cold on the slopes, so make sure they are suitably kitted out with everything they’ll need to keep them warm and dry. You’re better off hiring than buying equipment for kids unless you’re going to be spending a significant amount of time each season out skiing because they grow so quickly that boots and skis will soon be outgrown. Make use of the hiring facilities at your resort, at least until you know how keen the kids are.

With the right planning and preparation, your skiing trip will be a great success, and you’ll have a wonderful time. Making it as much fun as possible for the kids will instill a love of snow sports into them that will last their whole lives.

Anouk Govil And I With The Best Kayak Places Which We Have Been To

July 28, 2018 by admin

Myself an my good friend Anouk Govil have been combining our love for kayaking and traveling for many years now, and during this time we have been lucky enough to paddle across some of the world’s most incredible places. I wanted to share with you just some of our favorite places, in order to inspire you to head out with your kayak and discover these wonderful corners of the world. Without further ado then, here are some of the most special spots that my buddy and I have had the good fortune to travel to and kayak in.

Belize

Everyone understandably thinks about the Great Barrier Reef when they consider reef kayaking but have you ever considered Belize? In truth, we hadn’t either but as we were traveling down to Costa Rica for a kayak trip, someone mentioned the barrier reef of Belize and we had to try it out, thankfully we did because it is spectacular. Kayaking here is like discovering a new world under the sea, as you paddle across emerald green waters you get the very best views of the vast and multicolored reef below. This is the second largest reef in the world and it is highly recommended that you try snorkeling or kayaking here.

Galapagos National Park

The Galapagos had been on my travel list for a very ling time, but I had never really considered kayaking there. As it happens, you can gain special access to go sea kayaking in the national park, and we were fortunate enough to be granted permission. To say this trip was incredible would be a huge understatement, we were lucky enough to paddle next to sea lions, giant tortoises, penguins and we even spotted some marine iguanas on the way. The marine life is just the tip of the iceberg here however, and the hidden coves, tiny beaches and uninhabited islands made this trip one of the most special that I have ever been on.

Baja. Mexico

Baja California in Mexico was somewhere that I knew quiet well from my Springbreak days in Los Cabos, but I never realized what a rich and beautiful place it was for kayaking. As it happens, they call this place the Mexican Galapagos because of its huge array of marine life and wildlife, and what we thought would be a relatively non-eventful trip, turned out to be quite the contrary. Here you can see whales, sea lions and a huge variety of multicolored fish and birds which I have never seen or heard about in my life. What made the trip even better was the fact that the sunshines very strong down in this part of Mexico, and that made those breaks on the beaches even better. The waters here are clear, the views uninterrupted and the beaches blissful, a perfect place for a leisurely paddle on your kayak.
